that they exist

that they breathe

that they actually believe that them thinking is acceptable

that despite their lack of preparation, it couldn't have been their fault they lost

hitting right handed while on the lead in the lane, while the chaser is coming on outside of them

hitting right handed as they try and catch a horse who is herding them out

again...that they exist

Walking the surface in their smoking jackets before the first race, when already decided to get the races called off...simply because they can.

Don't forget the gaudy pipes they smoke while doing this. Pontificating on the Latin gold markets while trying to describe the new drapes for their mansion!

Which jockeys would they be?
It's still one of the toughest jobs there is;not all by far make big money out of the game.
And even they can lose their nerve from time to time because of the dangers involved.

This may sound insensitive, but nobody cares its a tough job because the "salary" more than compensates people for the dangers or else nobody would do it. There's a reason there are a lot of jockeys, because the amount of money you could make outweighs the 'dangers" of the profession in the eyes of all the people who do it.

If they lose their nerve, they can find another way to make a living, there will always be someone to take their place.

Yep! It does sound insensitive;and cold hearted too.
They make mistakes like everyone else;but they are tough people in my book.

No doubt, they're extremely tough and they pay a dear price physically, not arguing there.

Let me explain what i meant in a different way. Nobody wants to see them get hurt, we all know its not an easy job and human being to human being, we care about their welfare, they are a big part of the game we love, but just as far as this discussion goes, the toughness of the job is not really much of a discussion point, we have peeves against jocks but the peeves still exist despite the rough and tumble nature of their occupation.

(1) ABSOLUTELY THIS!!

it's like they have no left arm to get the horse to the crown of the track.

(2) excessive ground loss in first turn of a two turn race.

proximity rule: the horse's first turn path should never be greater than the square root of his post position.

Biggest pet peeve: In a race that has little apparent early speed, the horse I anticipate to get the lead takes back, and a different slower horse wins wire to wire.

Vast majority of times, I believe taking a horse back who wants to run takes just as much energy out of him as letting him run fast would have. The only difference is that now he's five lengths worse off than he would have been otherwise.

jocks when on a live energetic horse get trapped on the inside...predominantly happens in turf races but also in dirt races as well.Nothing is more aggravating then a horse that has to check at the top of the stretch along the rail slows to get outside and finishes a fast closing 2nd or 3rd behind a front running or closing in the clear winner. For this reason i never bet jockeys who are less than 10% wins on the turf! This does not always lead to winners but gets me off a lot of losers!
