So many follow CJ's pace figures for so many years.
He must be doing something right.

On days I was too lazy to handicap I would just bet the horses CJ designated
as L3 and showed a profit.

Some nice prices but like any other system that picked longshots be prepared for some long losing streaks.

Fight, the rules aren't lengthy or difficult. So, here, again, is the thread I linked. It has the rules in it, plus other information. The rules each hold true, still today. I'm sorry, I didn't answer earlier. I've been traveling for two days. Just got in and I'm tired from driving. Take care..

Race selections based on these simple rules:

1. Find last race on today's surface (dirt or turf)
2. ===== type layoff horses are excluded
3. Top figure is the bet
4. Ties, bet the highest odds

===== is a layoff of 180 days.

4Rules horse: Regarding the layoff period, this used to be 180 days but has since been changed, if I recall, to horses of around 90 days off.

The 3L is a horse making his third start off a layoff. This being preferred to second start off. Too, in the past, horses were noted that were running on the same surface within 1/2 furlong of today's distance. Abbreviations , italics or bold type were used for some of these distinctions. Some of these are not in the TFUS figures, today, but still one remembers them and can look for such horses. I hope this helps. My making mistakes on these? Its quite possible. .... Keep in mind, though, the figures are only part of the product. TFUS has many tutorials at their site, and on YouTube. Check them out.

L3

1. Has to be 3rd race off a 90 day layoff.
2. Last race has to be better than his next to last race.
3. He had to have a better figure before his layoff

Example

July 30 94
July 2 91
=========
Apr 4 68
Mar 26 71
Feb 28 97
Feb 3 72

That's a L3 horse as he has improved from 91 to 94 and has a top in his past of 97.

This worked with CJs pace figures in the past. Not saying his figures in TimeformUS are exactly the same as in past.

Yes, nothing has changed but the scale. The 4r are just a tool I use a starting point when handicapping. With the L3 horses, I prefer a long layoff of 180 days or more, but improving horses or those rounding into form are always a staple for me.
