Big M's change next year

With big M's change with the stretch moved to where the backstretch is now will make the winds reversed. What used to be tailwinds in the stretch will be headwinds, I think you will be seeing some huge middle half's next year.
With that and the banked turns look for some nice overlays......I hope

Perhaps your speculating?

Is it possible that current backstretch winds are a deflection of winds as a result of the existing structure?

When a new building exists on the current backstretch the wind effect "may" be entirely different.

In any event, there is some speculation that the new building may not even exist in time for the 2013 season.

My guess is that you'll see headwinds instead of tailwinds. Tailwinds usually help closers, headwinds usually help front runners.

I could be wrong but I dont think the building will have any play in the wind. Most times it's either headwinds or tailwinds at Big M, I think tailwinds happen more and with the grandstand being on either side wont affect the wind. I agree with Pandy ,you will see headwinds more so the middle half's will be huge. Wonder if you will see different style of drives with the change ?

Maybe it "is" time for a real change of some sort at the Big-M.....It should be interesting, to say the least.....A little new "spice" may be just the ticket....

We shall see....I am looking forward to it....

Than the 250k just spent to re-bank the turns, and benefit closers will have been spent for an approximate single season.

for an approximate single season (or until the new grandstand/clubhouse is built), than you'll need to revise your methods once again.

I find it difficult to believe that the New Meadowlands is going to throw down 250k a year to constantly revise the methods in which race strategies are developed.

Perhaps next time they'll add a chute
Elevate the backstretch or down-hill the stretch, as many of the courses in Europe are.

I think the banked turns will still help the closers just not as much next year than this year. They say they banked them 10% this year, how much were they banked when they first opened ?

mirror,
My recollection may be incorrect, however I seem to recall the when the banking was removed (the T-Bred controversy) that it was in the 3-5%.

See Guys the whole key to these changes or any changes will be how the drivers will react. That will tell the tale in the long run'it's not an accident that George Brennon does well at yonkers He is a speed driver. Drivers at Meadowlands will do what is needed.

mirror,
I'm not sure there's any publicized record of what the banking was in 1976 when the track opened.
Amy Silver of the Meadowlands, or another representative may be able to provide an answer, however I've seen the same question asked time and again, without anybody supplying a valid reference.

Hell, I've been unable to locate the date when Northville Downs was severely banked (its present state) and I recall reading an extensive article in the paper when it was done (some time in the 1980s).

Northville Downs in Michigan.

Sometime during the early- or mid-1980s they tore up the entire track (went pretty deep in the ground as well) and banked the turns comparative to Windsor Raceway.
As I recall it, there is a mere eighteen feet of track surface that is level.

FWIW, up until that time of the re-banking the trotting track record was still held by the 1962 Hambletonian winner A. C.'s Viking (Sanders Russell), whom set the Northville Downs record in 1963.
Had the turns not be re-banked, I often speculate that A. C's would still hold the record

Hollywood is taking a siesta

I 've sent Two articles in the past week from 1943 that were titled "Statistical Odds and Ends", by Leon G. Duffy.
( I posted one that I found useful here).

The articles were sent to some others as well and the subject line was Hollywood Heyden of 1943 (I'm sure before Bob was born).
I was expecting a reply from Bob and thus far zilch.
