Name the horse

This horse ran for SEVEN years. He won his three year old debut (in only his fifth start) at the Kentucky Derby and went on to WIN 50 out of 100 races and place in 84% of them before he retired. Sometimes he carried up to 140 pounds, and ran at seven years old with 133 pounds. Sometimes he ran two, three or more races in a week. He ran at home, was shipped to Canada, Mexico, off tracks, he took them all on. He has the most stakes wins of any thoroughbred at 33. My father can remember as a little boy the buzz over this horse and seeing him with his donkey by his side. Without googling, who is he??

It has to be, because of the 50 wins and Derby win, though I don't think he ran 100 races.

Correct. My father remembers him. My father was born in 1930 but the horse was famous to us at least because he was from here (Binghamton, NY) and the old Sun Briar stables were along the riverbanks of the Susquehanna. He's buried here, but it's been a long time since I've been to his grave site.

His owners pride and joy was Sun Briar and even though Exterminator was a money maker he always thought Sun Briar was the cat's ass. The genes just had to be different in those days to run that many races.
