One Mount...One Win
Ten Pound bugboy Kevin Roman rode his first horse in a parimutual race at Finger Lakes in race 5 today and won for fun at 19-1. Tucks in for a perfect trip behind the speed dual, tips wide at the top of the lane and wins for fun with the whip tucked away.
Congratulations Kevin
For you historians or statisticians or simply anyone with a good memory. Did Any other jockeys of note ever with their first mount?

I think another FL rider did - can't remember his name, but he rode for Mike Ferraro. Clive Beech? I don't know if I can get at the old data from the 80's anymore but I'll check it out.

Drayden Van Dyke won with his Second career mount, a pickup mount where he rode with NO apprentice allowance.

There's a name from the past. Was it an ostrich race? Roxy was a legendary Gambler in Vegas. He made a killing betting baseball. He would get the wind velocity and direction from each stadium and bet over/under accordingly until they kicked him out.

After he cleaned up betting baseball, they wanted to know how and why. Soon they let him make lines and do the dissemination sheets.

He rode a 2yo quarter horse filly named From Downtown. Broke sharply from inside post, led all the way. Roxy fell off one stride past the post and finished up in the ambulance. Announced his retirement an hour later. July 14, 1996. Mirahmadi called the race.

As a bettor, I always like to see a high percentage rider on my horse.
