I like elysiantraveller, but he shouldn’t waste his talents here. He should get a job in the propaganda unit of the CIA, some NeoCon think thank, the FBI etc… that blames everything on Russia while destroying our own country and destabilizing the world.

Can one of those who consider themselves more grounded in reality than I explain to me how you can share the sentiments here expressed by CH, with whom I am not disagreeing as far as it goes, and so vehemently oppose the idea that maybe things just go further than you might imagine, that they have been going on longer and encompass more areas. It’s just a matter of degree in a way, after all.

I’ve just done a survey of today’s headlines about this. “Putin Weak.” Putin Losing Grip.” “Putin On Way Out.”
The set up is for him to escalate or be said to escalate “the war.” Maybe with the added oomph that he’ll blame or be said to blame The West for instigating “the coup.”

It's too bad all those claims of a Ukrainian victory and Russian defections and collapse from so long ago never came to fruition...wouldn't need a bullet from close range if only those prognostications were accurate..oh well...

I'd make the same bet, but it may take awhile.
Putin IS just like a mafia gangster. He will take out his opponents.
He's just not a threat to the west unless we provoke him into using nukes and he never would have entered Ukraine other than extremist Ukrainians purging ethnic Russians and Russian speaking people in the east that wanted to be free of Ukraine and NATO wanting to put missiles, biolabs etc.. into Ukraine and threaten the defense of Russia.
