First big vacation trip after Covid - Some changes to hospitality
SWMBO and I are on a trip to Kentucky to enjoy some wagering (except at the casino we stayed at in Indiana (on the river) that does not allow "animal wagering" - their words). We are currently staying at a 5 star hotel in Louisville.
We definitely notice some hospitality changes VS pre-Covid. All of our hotels (but one) and the resort casino have eliminted valet parking. This can be problematic if you need it. Also, there are no more bell hops for help with your luggage. You are on your own to find a cart and haul your own luggage. Again, we are not staying in a Motel 6. I'm talking resorts and 5 star name brand hotels here. Also, no more maid service automatically. You must call every morning, each and every day of your stay and request maid service, or you won't get it.
No more remote control for the HDTV in the room. You download an app and control the TV from there. Smart for the hotel because battery issues, lost remotes, and disinfectant requirements of the remotes are now gone. But what if you don't have a smartphone?
LONG lines to check in and do anything with the front desks. Apparent staffing shortages. One hotel took us just over 40 minutes to check in. That's a long time. They had one clerk at the front desk taking care of dozens of people standing in line. Of course, some people had issues so they each took 10 minutes or more to check in when it normally takes 2 to 3 minutes.
And this one really got me. During our stay at the resort on the Ohio river, we hung out a DND (do not disturb) sign overnight. No big deal, right? The next morning, we get a pre-printed card slid under our door. It said something like;
"While we value your privacy, please know that if you hang your DND sign up for two consecutive days, a hotel representative will be required to enter and visually inspect your room to make sure everything is OK, and that you are in good health. Thank you."
That's a new one on me.
