"Masochistic finished second to Drefong in the six-furlong race, which had a purse of $1.5 million. Second-place money was worth $255,000, which will be forfeited by owners Will Shamlian and Samantha Siegel. Mind Your Biscuits, who originally finished third, will now be placed second and receive the runner-up share. A. P. Indian will be moved up to third, Limousine Liberal to fourth, Delta Bluesman to fifth, and Noholdingback Bear to sixth. There were seven runners in the race."
Except that there is no sixth purse money in the Breeders' Cup (there used to be).
IMO, in a race in which horses have to qualify for (certainly all of the BC races and at least the Derby among the TC races), the Australian method of purse distribution would be a good idea: Say, 55% to 1st, 18% to 2nd, 9% to 3rd, 5% to 4th, 3% to 5th, and 2% each to 6th through 10th (6th through 10th get the same share in most races in Australia). The nomination and starting fees can be reduced to assure a net profit for 6th through 10th even after the jockey mount fee is paid.

Ellis got a raw deal...that is rich. He was told the horse might not pass and ran anyway. He should have gotten much worse in my opinion.

Best thing that could happen (and it might) is Baffert sweeps the Breeders' Cup races. It will be fun listening to the commentators having to throw accolades at Baffert with a straight face.

I don't buy into the Baffert is a cheater stuff. He has the best horses. I've been wrong before. In any case, this horse won't be in the BC so the point is moot for him.

my feeling is he does what everyone else does, that does not mean he follows the rules per say, kinda like speeding if you will.
he has the best horses, trains them super hard because if they dont make it he has plenty more. I think he is also pretty good at what he does, which is young horses on dirt, does not try to do things he really cant.

I don't know what is real or what is memorex. But it feels a lot like Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire in 1998 to me. My opinion is Baffert is a sharp trainer, gets the best clients, best horses and (you fill in the blank). I doubt it's just the first two.

Agree, it is tough to know. As a bettor I find it counterproductive to worry about it much. I just know who the good trainers are, the bad trainers are, and most importantly the move up, can't claim from trainers. I leave the whys to others at this point, tired of playing that game.

the way the game is, these top dogs have a gravity or an attraction
if you have a great horse, who do you go to?
if you have a great medication, who do you go to?
