Hello Rafael,

For Aqu07 and Aqu09 you wagered a total of $1 on each race. The minimum total for each race must be $2, and I have copied an excerpt of the applicable rule below:

-- All bets have a minimum base amount $1, and each individual wager total must be at least $2. There is no minimum bet per race other than reaching the $2.00 threshold, however, each player gets only 30 races to grow your bankroll, so consider wisely.

I suspect that some folks think I get special pleasure out of trying to find some minor rule infraction so that use the power of Contest Manager to not allow credit on a successful ticket or see that a person becomes ineligible altogether. In reality, I am just trying to serve to the best of my abilities, and enforce any and all contest rules fairly and equally with regard to all the contest participants. Sometimes the situation is not clearly spelled out in the rules, and that is when a judgement call needs to be made.

I must confess that from time to time, even though the situation is clearly covered in the rules, I have been tempted to let things slide by. The trouble with this is that once you make an exception for one person, it becomes hard to justify why you did not do so with someone else. Then factor in the possibility that someone could then believe you show partiality, and there goes your credibility. In the long-run, it is better to enforce the rules consistently, even if it does mean being the bad guy.

As an aside, I was happy that you decided to participate for the first time in one of these contests. Upon seeing your last two contest selections, I immediately let out a groan, as I knew instantly what that meant. I hope you choose to join as in some of our other upcoming contests.

Alas, as has been mentioned several times here, and prior to this last day - the Contest ended with the running of the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland at ~ 5:13 pm Eastern. One of your races, HAW Race 9, was scheduled to run at 6:46pm Eastern, which is after the Contest ended. So you did not get in the required 30 races. Sorry ...

Congratulations to the Winner of the RDSS Sartin/Bradshaw Memorial Contest - tomack59! Tom is a longtime RDSS user who has kept me on the straight and narrow for many years, always reminding me of the tools he wants to see in the software (not that I've always been prompt in accommodating him, alas ). Tom, I think you've earned the right to expect your latest request to appear very soon! You've also earned not only the $250 Contest Winner's Cash Prize share, but also the RDSS subscribers' Top prize of another $250 = $500. Plus the 2 months RDSS Data prize. Plus the fine statue awarded by Assiniboia Downs. Not a bad haul, all in all!

But wait, there's more: 2nd place went to that master of animal control - dogkatcher, another longtime RDSS user and perennial Contest player and winner, currently serving on Team Squatheads RDSS heading into the PAIHL Team Contest semi-finals. Dogkatcher wins both the 2nd place main prize of $150 and also the RDSS subscribers prize of another $150 = $300. Congratulations (and watch your back in the PAIHL ).

Congratulations also to 3rd place overall finisher gaz who wins the $100 cash prize (and co-incidentally, is also one of the 3 Pens on Team Pens Pens RDSS heading into the PAIHL semi's).

Rounding out the Cash Prize winners is Swifty0x0 who wins the 3rd place RDSS Subscribers prize of $100. Congratulations on a job well done.

Lastly, the winner of the RDSS software and data Bonus Prize - awarded by random draw at the hand of Jay Trotter is --> camourous. Congratulations!

As soon as all the results of the Contest are Official tomorrow, I'll be contacting all the prize winners to make arrangements.

I want to thank ALL the players this year for digging in and putting their hands and minds to this difficult contest. Unfortunately, just like in the real-world, some of the details of the Contest rules required particular focus and attention during the run down the Contest stretch, and tripped up some players who otherwise were on track for a positive bankroll scenario.

I particularly want to thank Track Collector Chris for tireless efforts managing this Contest (though I know it was probably quite tiring in the end). I think I owe you at least a drink or two at Sartoga this year. And to Jay Trotter for his enthusiasm and foundational organization of this and all the Contests in the P.A.C.S. series. Also - PaceAdvantage Mike for this great venue and for keeping the lights on and glowing brightly!

Hi Ted,

While it did not apply to this specific case, a more precise interpretation was that races which actually went off after the Lexington were not allowed. I think there was another race somewhere that had a scheduled post time before the Lexington, but because the actual race off time was later, it could not be used either.

While my input on rules was solicited and used for this year's contest, I would suggest the following for any future offering of this specific contest.

Some thoughts:
-- Allowing 4 maximum races per day vs. 3 in the previous year was a good and acceptable change.
-- Having a precise number of plays to get in is too demanding and not practical, as demonstrated by the number of folks who encountered difficulties in meeting this requirement. More practical would be for a range of plays, with something like a 20 to 25 minimum and 30 maximum. From the viewpoint of trying to win one of the top prizes, "most" players are going to want the extra plays beyond the "minimum" requirement. It also allows them to play more "optional" races.
-- From a scoring standpoint and a player strategy (race selection) standpoint, I don't see the need to end the contest with a specific "prep" race. Selections on the final contest day should be open the entire day, just like it is for every other contest day.
-- Allowing selections on Mondays and Tuesdays, although extra work for the scorer, was a good decision. Some players seemed to particularly like tracks like Prx/WRD/TuP/Beu that run mainly on those days.

Thanks for your sponsorship! The number of contest participants would be no where near what they are without these nice prizes!

BTW, I can't find my point value draft chart. Are two drinks at Saratoga worth a speciality sandwich?

Chris,

I like your idea about minimum/maximum races. Also about ending the contest at the end of the final day's races, not with the final Mandatory race (e.g. Lexington Stakes).

We can also study the implications of permitting $1 Exacta wagers. Some tracks allow them, some do not. We could permit $1 Exacta payoffs for all tracks even if they don't exist in the real world - unless this is too logistically difficult to score. Just like we already permit non-real-world scenarios like: a $600 Win or Place pool bet at Will Rogers or Fonner Park not affecting the mutuels ...

All good ideas to mull over, either at Saratoga or next December while plotting the 2014 edition of the 'Road to the Roses'. Chris - I'll stand you to ANY meal or beveredge of your choice on track at the Spa - no worries! I think you deserve a round of applause (at least) from the combined PaceAdvantage / PaceandCap attendance that weekend, and I will see to it. And if Jay Trotter can make it (if we can tear him away from golf), I'll double the offer
