Most will probably be no more than an hour or two drive. You can check out my list from a previous thread: http://www.paceadvantage.com/forum/s...scanman&page=5

Chris - Just got to #357, Sweetwater Downs. Was in jeopardy of breaking a streak of
34 years of visiting at least one new track. Still may try an add Mahoning Valley this year.

Lots of leave saved up, so next year, I'll be going on a terror.

Thanks for the info and the suggestions... however steeplechasing does nothing at all for me!

Flemington - I hear it's fantastic. Saving that one for #500 on Melbourne Cup day.

Bamako - Too funny. Are they still racing?

I feel the same about Longacres. Beautiful racecourse.

Flemington was a weekday afternoon. The place was vacant. Started talking to one of the ushers & he took me on a tour of track. Great afternoon for a 18 year old kid the first time out of the country by himself. The place is amazing!

Bamako... I have no idea. One week layover in Bamako on a trans-Africa trip. Guy fixing my truck took us to the races & it was basically a dirt field. Riot broke out when a government officials horse won in an obvious fixed race. Guess we should have known there was going to be trouble.. don't often see riot police stationed at horse track.

I didn't mean my response to be taken as being critical of you or Columbus. I almost went there this year. Definitely will have to go there now.

Several years ago Scanman (Tom) "planted" the idea of getting me to accompany him on one of these world-wide racing trips. I had a number of reasons why it was unlikely, and assessed the chances at that time to be 1%. Now chances are still low at about 5%, but likely to increase as time goes by.

Several years ago he made a "dream" trip to Australia where he was able to get in 25 new thoroughbred tracks within a 28-day period. Simply amazing, and not remotely possible here in the US because of timing and distance between tracks.

A few years ago, I and my other track collecting friend Gary (who is not a forum member) were able to meet up with Tom for a day of races at White Pine Raceway (aka Ely) in Nevada. We happened to run into a reporter, and were interviewed by the local newspaper and had our picture taken.

Although we have a significant number of "common" tracks visited, it was pretty neat having 3 guys together who had such high track collecting totals. At the time we did not think about coming up with a grand total for the 3 of us, but it had to be something around 575, with Tom leading the way at around 330.

Typical Aussie hospitality. Last year I made a run on tracks in New South Wales, but next trip I may go back to Victoria.

Concerning Bamako, looks like they were still racing as of last year. Check out this link: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-34846506
