Watched an old Seinfeld recently. It was the episode were Kramer refused to wear the AIDS ribbon and then was beaten up by some fellow walkers.
So, be safe -- just make sure you wear the pink ribbon.

This dreaded disease claimed the life of my wife...and left my son without a mom since the age of four and a half. And yet, it infuriates me to see it said that "we are winning the fight against breast cancer". How can we be winning a fight against a disease which claims more lives with each passing year?
We are LOSING the fight against breast cancer...no matter WHAT the cancer industry is saying.

I agree. My wife died of lung cancer last year, and all you hear in the news is that they are developing all these wonderful pills to take the place of chemo. What they don't tell you is that a very small percentage of people medically qualify to take this pill, and the rest (>90%) are SOL. The truth comes hard and fast in the oncology office and it ain't pretty. Odds are tough for most forms of cancer. The reality is far different than the rah rah stories.

The levity of the thread does not upset me. The dishonesty of the original message is what I am revolting against. Breast cancer was once confined to older people...but is now raging even among the young. And we are constantly told that we are supposedly "gaining ground" against this horrible disease. What kind of fools do they think we are?
I wouldn't want to see my worst enemy go through what my wife went through for three and a half years. She fought like a tiger...as all these unfortunate women do. During my wife's chemo treatments, I met women who went to their chemo sessions alone...and then went to WORK afterwards. These women put up heroic efforts to stay alive...and they don't deserve to be lied to.

Do you remember an epidemiological study done years ago when researchers went to Japan or some of the islands of Japan to study the inhabitants of the fishing villages? There was some strong implications being made there was a cultural and dietary differential when it came to the incidents of breast cancer.
What was the outcome of that study I wonder.

I wouldn't doubt for a second that diet and culture are huge predictors as to who will and won't get cancer. The one other being genetics...
You have people who smoke all their lives and never get cancer....you have people who never smoke who end up dying of lung cancer...go figure...
