Ford won't testify on Monday.
Quote:
The attorney for the Palo Alto, California, psychology professor who accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault while they were high school students said on Tuesday evening that her client, Christine Blasey Ford, is “not prepared” to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday for a hearing without a full FBI investigation into her allegations.

The DOJ has already made it clear that there is no basis for an FBI investigation.
Quote:
The demand for an FBI investigation prior to Ford’s testimony sets up an unfulfillable condition that guarantees Ford will not testify. The FBI doesn’t have any basis for an investigation of an alleged sexual assault from 36 years ago on private property. Ford can’t name the place or the date of the assault, which makes it impossible even for local law enforcement to investigate. On top of that, the statute of limitations on any potential charges ran out decades ago, especially since Kavanaugh would have been a minor at that time. Furthermore, as the Department of Justice has already made clear, the FBI’s jurisdiction only extends to potential federal crimes, not local crimes such as sexual assaults in private residences.

Is there a PRESIDENTIAL election coming up in November?
Quote:
The GOP did argue in 2016 that a Supreme Court vacancy shouldn't be filled until after voters had their say in the coming election, but their argument was about who gets to nominate the justice — not who gets to confirm him or her. It was clearly about presidential election years, not midterms.

You're comparing apples to oranges.
Would you rather that the vacancy(s) not be filled for the next six years...and yes, it will be six years.
This has nothing to do with a tit-for-tat. The Demos plan is to obstruct EVERYTHING...to hell what is good for the American people, as a whole. You must know that, or don't be so naive!

There is a basis if directed by Trump.
The FBI to do its job and investigate Hill’s allegations.
https://abcnews.go.com/US/clarence-t...ry?id=14802217
The stakes were high. President George H. W. Bush nominated Thomas to replace Thurgood Marshall, the court's first black justice and a staunch liberal. Thomas was an ardent conservative, and Democrats fretted that he would shift the court to the right.
But his confirmation hearing of actually had been completed when news reports leaked the bombshell allegations; that one of Thomas' co-workers had accused him of sexual harassment during interviews with the FBI. The Judiciary Committee agreed to take more testimony.

While vetting Thomas for the Supreme Court, the FBI interviewed Hill after receiving a tip that she had been sexually harassed by Thomas during her years working with him. The transcripts of that interview were leaked to National Public Radio’s Nina Totenberg, casting Hill into the national spotlight, something she never intended.

Not to anyone with a brain.
You fall for everything, don't you?
This is a sham and it is so obvious. SHE will not testify before and FBI investigation.
Well, K has already been through 6 FBI vetting investigations over the years. NOTHING bad ever showed up.
SHE is only dragging her feet to hold up the voting.
Anyone with a brain can see that.
If she refuses her opportunity to testify under oath on Monday, she deserves no "justice."
What a bunch of gullible people here.
PA, I need to advertise something here - these guys will buy anything.

What would they specifically investigate? And are you fine with Republicans behaving the same way when a Democrat Prez nominates someone next time? Virtually anyone can make these allegations against anyone.

Yep, the evidence in this case would never make it into an actual courtroom. A Prosecuter would be a fool to pursue charges.

The FBI has the authority to investigate the background of nominees to federal positions, such as SCOTUS. It can report evidence of a crime, but cannot investigate the crime itself if it is not a violation of federal law.
Quote:
Senate Democrats such as Dianne Feinstein have insisted that the FBI should investigate as they did with Anita Hill’s allegations of sexual harassment by Clarence Thomas. Ford’s letter references that argument indirectly in the phrase, emphasis mine, “As the Judiciary Committee has recognized and done before, an FBI investigation of the incident should be the first step in addressing her allegations.” This is a much different situation than the Hill-Thomas allegation on a number of levels, but one is especially germane. Hill accused Thomas of harassment at their place of work, in federal government offices — the Department of Education and the EEOC. That gave the FBI enough jurisdiction to interview Hill and conduct a brief investigation, one that ultimately went nowhere over a he-said-she-said impasse. There is no such entrée on jurisdiction for the FBI in this case, and any attorney who ever studied jurisdiction in law school would know the difference.

I certainly won't get accused of being a politician.

Like I said many times before, his confirmation is a slam dunk...wake me when it happens.
As hcap likes to type, it's only a matter of time.

If it is true that Ford can not remember key details like place, date, etc., she would be a fool to appear for testimony on Monday.
A vote and confirmation by the end of next week is likely.

It's true. She can't remember the time, year, place or how she got home.
She was a fool to have brought all of this smear job up.
Certainly she had poor legal counsel.
Down the road her own career will be in tatters.
