"No Mas, No Mas" To 1 1/16m ITC races at Bel!
After what happened with Fair Archer (who is presumably no relation to Dri Archer! LOL) in the 6th race on Saturday, NYRA will finally come to its senses and permanently dump these 1 1/16-mile races on the Inner Turf Course, which give the #1 post a 10-length head start over the horse drawing the outside post in any field of significant size.
And oh yes, Collective Effort, who drew the inside post in the aforementioned race, won it.

I bet Fair Archer. I'm glad to see this change.

I think he is wishing there were a change, don't think it is an actual change.

There wasn't a change. Fair Archer was not declared a non-starter.

Is that the horse who ran onto the other turf course?
That wasn't the first time that happened was it?
I remember that a few years ago, but not sure if it was Belmont.
Is this the distance the jocks are upset about?

that is beyond ridiculous. that little string with the flags is supposed to mean something to a horse breaking from the gate? If you cannot afford to set up temporary rails to denote a clear racing path...don't card races at that distance.
There is a reason they put out that temporary rail in races that start beyond the far turn...so horses don't make an unnecessary left hand turn. But in my memory they use a rail for that purpose, not a string with tiny flags...

I thought that string looked pretty flimsy.
Looks like a stupid place to start a race.

OMG, a thread in which everyone agrees with me.
I think I'm gonna bookmark this thread!
And yes - this is the distance that the jockeys have been kvetchin' about for years; and the late John Piesen was an ardent foe of running these races, once likening synopses of their starts to "rodeo reports."
