ELLIS PARK (SURFACE SWITCH)

I NEVER heard or seen until today a racetrack change their races from the main track to ALL remaining races on the turf

Yeah, that used to happen a lot at Turf Paradise after a rain; the dirt would become a quagmire. I remember one mile in the 1980ís in the mud that went in 1:58 and the horses would sink on the course down to nearly their knees.

Saw it at SA back in the 80s (I think).

Water main broke and flooded the dirt so bad that they switched the last race or two to the turf.

I was watching the live feed on TwinSpires and the situation was clearly explained while the horses were in the paddock.

joke: whoever 'live streams' cell phone video of their dirt races from the roof was also sorely missed.
