What leads you to believe that it's sincere? It's just throwing fu $ around like their peers' narcissistic investments.

Wondering if it's six teams and one horse per race per team or if we can see something like three teams in a race with two runners each. Actually could get interesting to me betting-wise if the races are very evenly matched. They might need to use weight to bring them together. I'm ok with trying new things, even if it falls flat it may eventually open up some thoughts around other wagering options that I think could generate some momentum with sports bettors. Oh and can we get low takeout please? Maybe have this be the petri dish to experiment and fine tune some things.

I have to believe it will be more like the latter when you figure in form cycles/horse health, preferred surfaces, etc.

Has anyone here ever heard any clamor for a team sports concept for horse racing? I sure haven't.

And then when you read the piece, it sounds like they're suggesting the teams are simply the mechanism to have an "events" business.

“It’s an events model,” Lane said. “It’s based on the idea that we can bring thousands of new people to the track, and we can bring the kind of people that sponsors want to reach. So it’s no different than Preakness weekend this past weekend. We’ll be running events the entire weekend, not just the event at the track. It’s not just the races, it’s the lifestyle around the races.”

Why do you need teams in order to come up with a series of higher-profile events? If the people are coming for the "event", why would they have a particular affinity for these "team" races beyond whatever excitement you can already get from the existing race card?

This seems even dumber than the "teams" in LIV Golf.

Thanks for the link.

I saw a Tweet from Ray Paulick (I think?) earlier today which suggested they're planning some sort of reality TV show about this, akin to the F1 documentary series on Netflix (Drive To Survive). More focused on the personalities, events, etc. than the actual horse racing. Who knows?

This bullshit is vaguely on the right path.

you can take successful models from other disciplines...

multidisciplinary models are often best integrated, rather than imitated

At the end of the day, if this is an endeavor that's meant to be self-sustaining via gambling handle and not celeb angel $$$ it has an extremely high bar.

I agree, and my comment reads vague.

if there is some 'new' 'improved' gimmick to promote racing to a younger crowd, I would think it would be with media and Handicapping Tournaments.

World Series of Poker WSOP/poker-boom era, already has shown much of the structuring needed.

a lot of these 'ideas' ultimately are structured so that existing members profit as new members buy-in.

Differentiation from that structure comes in the form of the supplementary sources of income.

Tickets, event packages, sponsorships... The 'wagering' itself will be through the track as normal AFAIK.

https://www.tixr.com/ partnership is exciting. Nate Lieberman has done some good things with that app - Can purchase tickets quickly/easily, and can purchase more than just tickets w/ elegant design, premium experience offerings, high conversion rate...

Should be interesting to see if they bring a few things to the table, and how long they last.
