Greatest Racecalls Ever
[YT="Tom Durkin Greatest BC Calls "]JB3OkTWfbHk[/YT]
What are your favorite? What races give you goosebumps?
What calls bring you back in time, to a younger age, greater time?
What calls bring you shear joy?

"...Fenway was bred in Boston by Tom and Jean Yawkey..." *
-Luke Kruytbosch (Jan. 2004)
*May not be the precise phrasing but if not its damn close and you get the point.

Three that come to mind without any real digging is Vic's lava man call 'lava man yeasssssss' from the 2007 Hol gold cup and Durkins call of Rachel beating the boys at the spa.
Durkins Sunday silence-easy goer BC in 89 is another spine tingling call 'with one final acceleration'

The greatest racecall EVER!!
Is there an announcer in this country who could duplicate this man's performance?

I threw the Luke one in deference to the last condition in your original post because I just can't help believing that racing seemed more fun back then in part because even he was always having some fun all day slipping in little subtle dabs of humor in odd places that would catch you off-guard and make you smile in the midst of wiping a pile of losers off the table and onto the floor.
In what is probably more the spirit of the thread, I can really say that most of the time in big races in particular, I don't even hear the call until I see it again after it runs live. I think my hearing just turns to mute to save resources if I'm staring as hard as I can at something. But the one time I vividly recall that not being the case and hearing every word of the last half-mile of the race and feeling like those last few moments before you know and argument is about to become a full-on fight - just swelled up with adrenaline and anticipation and waiting for climax like I had been sitting in the crowd with my eyes closed listening to a great classical performance.
That would be the Victory Gallop/Real Quiet Belmont. I don't care how played out it is, or how played out Luke tributes are for that matter, I don't get a lot of chances to be absolutely certain about anything when asked something but of this I am.

I'm with you 1000%. I'm such a loser, that I would pull out VHS tapes and rewatch the Real Quiet/Victory Gallop race for years and CRY during the race. Not because I liked Real Quiet or Can't Desourmeaux but because of the sheer beautiful agonizing moments involved. AWESOME!
Luke, I can't possibly say more than you did. Sorrow.....

Need to give credit to Tony.
As I sit at a light in my car and watch the crowd start their walk across the street, I can't help but say to myself:
AND THERRRRRRRE DEY GoooOOOOOOOOO

Funny you say that after my Luke bit since I usually say that I was never a Tony Calo fan until I got to hear him call all day, every day. Aside from realizing I totally underestimated his technical abilities in reporting the action, he brought some of that same fun vibe to the long days that seems to do it for me for whatever reason.
