Kentucky Derby Future Pool #3

Pool #3 will be offered this weekend.



Two preps this weekend, Risen Star at Fair Grounds and the South West at Oaklawn. With Essential Quality running on Monday, along with Keepmeinmind and Jackie's Warrior, it will be interesting to see how this shakes out. I don't see JW as a major player at the classic distance.


There are 5 colts with RAN sire line, in the 23 betting interests, obviously when you include the field that number will rise.


I'm not going to go crazy, but I'm going to be interested in a a couple in the pool, pending odds.

I noticed Pletcher did not have one in this pool. So I thought, when was the last time that happened? He didn't have one in Pool 1 either. I didn't go into past years, but it's hard to imagine he hasn't been represented in just about every pool since they began. What happened to his supply chain?

Or else he's been uncommonly patient. Maybe he's emulating Baffert by trying to find one to peak for a five-week period instead of one day in May.

The field at 3-1 in that pool is looking like a strong play as it might claim around 14 gates including winners of the FL and SA Derbies. Concert Tour at 17-1 and Essential Quality at 8-1 were also solid. I boxed them but regret not plunking down a win wager there. On the plus side, there look to be several potential standouts to spread the wealth around on Derby Day which might allow for 7/2 type odds on any of them.

you dont get paid if it comes all/all right? I was commenting about pool 4. The Ark, SA, FL derby winners are part of the field

All/All/All/Pick is the same as All/Pick for the exacta payouts. You just need the best finishing listed horse along with one or more of the all others over or under when boxing a listed horse with the field.
