The Santa Anita Derby

Medina Spirit tries to fill Life Is Good's shoes... Good field size options...

Scratch #1 Roman Centurian

Looks like a two horse race now between Medina Spirit and Dream Shake.

I'm looking at the DEFUNDED 10-1 to to score the upset. He fits a spot play that's been on fire lately, so I'll take a shot.

That track was a bit speed favoring, but it looked like the was flat as well. Just running to form should have beat that field.

I guess mildly interested in the figures for the win and place horse... Also always have to watch the workouts on the , assuming Baffert chooses to enter him in the KD.

Essential Quality appears to be the favorite for the Kentucky Derby. He appeared to run a fast race today. Credit to Keeneland for putting on a good Derby Prep where the good horses 'fired'. Essential Quality had to go a bit wider/harder into the 1st turn, and then was able to prove better and more able to get a distance than Highly Motivated.

Looks like a good KD to handicap. Essential Quality should be tough, but is no 'lock' to win, and there's a lot of opinions to be had in the top finishers and the race shape.

Essential Quality got the golden trip which he won't get again in the Derby! He is overrated just like Greatest Honour. With the win at least now he will be the first or second favorite. If Concert Tour wins the Arkansas Derby I wouldn't be surprised if he is the favorite.

Had a few bucks on the winner and grabbed some dimes but missed second to last leg of P6. Arg.

The final 3/8 in 38.5 is slower than preferred, granted the early to mid pace looked fast. Will see what all the figures look like but don't think I'll be looking too hard at these come May.
