The Edmonton Oilers play at Rexall Place at Northlands. They have built a new arena downtown. Now with no Oilers playing there, and an empty arena at Northlands..beside the racetrack, they are looking at a different focus.

Northlands major tenant is the Edmonton Oilers.
They are moving downtown to a new arena.
The Oilers and the Canadian Finals Rodeo meant big bucks for Northlands.
Those bucks are no longer coming in.
Horse racing there has been on life support for years, propped up by slot machines.
A new big casino will be built by the new arena, and not too many people will stay at Northlands to play the slots.

Yes, that had already been planned for this coming Sept-Nov.

My guess is they'll probably work something out so that the standardbreds and t-breds can both race reasonable schedules at Century in 2017, probably standardbreds in winter and spring and t-breds in summer and fall. Just a guess, however.

If Century Downs is the hub for horse racing in Alberta, will they actually put in a toteboard, lights, paddock ring, they have kept costs to a minimum in every aspect of their Racino. I don't think you will see T-Breds there in 2016, maybe never, but that is just my opinion.
