Parx ready to open?

Maybe as early as next week, with no fans on the grounds.

Did not listen too closely, but I heard to get from PA's red zone to the yellow zone, CASES (not deaths) have to be less than 50 per 100K! That is .0005 or .05 percent.

Yikes! Me thinks Parx racing no time soon.

two interesting points from my perspective.

1. It doesn't sound likely that the track will open prior to the casino. Purses are heavily 'slot' dependent.

2. No claiming for 30 days when they re-open. Good thought as this avoids ppl congregating at the claim box. But doesn't this gives trainers a license to run a $25k horse for $5k with no worry of losing the horse? And then does this horse become eligible for starter races? This one has a lot of hairs and needs to be carefully crafted.

The purses upon returning will likely be dropped anyway so a $5k race could be filled with what would have been $25k horses. It’s all relative. One thing is for sure all these tracks will be running without spectators for months. Zero betting on track means no raking in the full takeout percentage.

But opens up the door to some confusing PPs there for a while, and confusion is our friend!

A few thoughts on this:

The "zero betting on track" means nearly nothing for Parx as on Mondays and Tuesdays nearly all of their wagers come in from off track anyway.

If the track won't (or can't, because it gets 80% of purse money from casino revenue) reopen until the casino does, it won't be in the near future. PA has closed schools through June, and I doubt they'll allow the gatherings of the high-risk elderly that casinos are.

If the track somehow does reopen with no casino, purses will be a fraction of what they were, so all previous race classifications will be out the window (unless there's money in reserve from not racing for months that props purses up for a bit). What those races are like will largely depend on if other mid-Atlantic tracks open.

You are correct per my trainer The casino Has to open first and then they can open the track.
