Larry Collmus no longer NYRA announcer

It will be unusual without Trevor, but nobody ever gave Del Mar the color that Joe Hernandez did. Trevor is in a class of his own with his comments on who has gas and who doesn't during the running. Joe wasn't the most accurate announcer, but to me he exemplified Del Mar as well as Santa Anita. Muy buenas tardes senoras y senores, bienvenidos a Del Mar.

The amazing thing about Del Mar is except the first year, i.e., since 1938, there have been only three full time announcers- Trevor, Harry Henson, and Joe Hernandez.

And I think the legend and color was provided by the immortal Harry Henson. One of the all time greats!

I was there that day. No press box access or special hospitality tents. Just two seats for Tina and I at about the sixteenth pole. So many great memories. The grandstand literally shook when ZENYATTA roared thru the stretch.

I was crushed at the windows and with the man. CRUSHED until I made a massive score in the dirt mile. FURTHEST LAND and READY'S ECHO. I had everything!

Also a very gratifying day as an agent when Joel Rosario won his 1st Breeders' Cup race on DANCING N SILKS. The Sprint for Carla Gaines. That was also a tidy score of a different kind. The purse was $2 million. He paid $57.00 to win and I didn't bet a nickle. Tina asked if I was going to wager on him. I said what for? If he wins my commission will be the same as betting $1000 to win on him. What a race, held off CROWN OF THORNS, COST OF FREEDOM and GAYEGO. All 4 were within a about a length at the wire. WHAT A RUSH!

COST OF FREEDOM was ridden by my old new boss Tyler Baze. We hooked up just yesterday. I'm going to be his agent again effective immediately.

Good timing too. With Ellis Park opening on July 2nd he'll be riding 1st call for Steve Asmussen. Anywhere from 5 to 10 horses a day to ride for Steve makes my job pretty easy. And very BIG FUN!

Some PA Karma/Love would be much appreciated. Let's GO!!

My memory of the race was not the call. It was the crowd when she finally got clear in the stretch. Trevor was clearly personally invested in her also.

I was in seats that no longer exist, in the upper deck of the clubhouse. The crowd continued to scream for 2 minutes past the finish.

Those are the ones that haunt me. The ones I seriously consider, but did not pull the trigger.
