Fighting at horse racing meets at the UK is becoming a big problem.

The suit and tie crowd gets into it. Link

Is it just the fact that people are drinking too much or is there another factor at play?

Soccer hooligans?

There is a theory going about that the fights at the UK racecourses
tend to happen on Saturdays when there is no Premier League soccer
taking place. Even soccer thugs have a Plan B.

I'm afraid all of this was my fault.

So there I was --

Sitting by myself at a picnic table on the track apron staring at my laptop.

That was when I realized Equibase data for UK races doesn't have internal fractions or pace figs.

At which point it hit me I was several hundred down for the day and the prospects for getting out were looking rather bleak.

At which point Dave Schwartz walked up and said "In HSH we have a Handicapping Object for that."

I lost my cool, grumbled something along the lines of "Friends don't let friends drive HSH," and shoved Dave away.

At which point Mike, the owner of Paceadvantage, stepped in and shouted "Hey! That's against the rules!"

At which point I really lost it and threw my laptop at Mike.

Mike ducked. My laptop went skittering across the track apron, broke apart, and pieces of it struck several patrons who up to that point had been minding their own business.

Among those hit by pieces of my laptop were CJ, Tom, Suff, Thaskalos, NorCalGreg, ReplayRandall, Mountainman, The Little Guy, V J Stauffer, Ron Tiller, Ubercapper, Barry Meadow, Dean, Stuball, Highnote, BCourtney, JerryBoyle, Mikesal57, Ted Craven, and many others.

That's us in the video... ahem... sorting things out.

At some point a policeman whacked me upside the head with a nightstick and the lights went out.

I woke up the next morning in the drunk tank with a splitting headache.

At which point I realized the hard drive from the laptop was gone, and with it 20 years of racing data.

But that isn't the worst part --

The horse I was going to bet in the last race before all hell broke loose?

You guessed it. He won at 11-1.

Can't believe I got shut out again.
