I want to start a thread about some of the fascinating people in our world who have served as a motivation to thousands -- even millions -- of people in their countries, and, through the power of the internet...to the world at large. Even though our world seems like a big mess, there are people out there who have overcome serious obstacles by way of their sheer will and self-discipline...and these people deserve our recognition because they serve as positive role models, especially to our young people who are in dire need of guidance and inspiration.
I am starting out this thread with a man named Eugenios Slidis, who is currently serving as a Green Beret in the Greek Special Forces. Slidis and his mother moved to Greece from their native Ukraine as refuges when he was 10 years old, and he learned the Greek language in a matter of months. As a young man he got into trouble with the law because of drugs and alcohol, but at the age of 18 he decided that he had put his body through enough abuse...and he quit all his bad habits at once, and dedicated himself to a life of discipline, health and fitness. In Greece he has reached legendary status, and he has become an inspiration to many thousands of young people who have come to realize that nothing is impossible when young people put their mind on something positive and fully apply themselves.
