No, I'm going to try and catch that

I followed Russell's career pretty closely - he was truly great

I know a couple of times he said or implied that he was a greater player than Wilt pointing to his much greater number of Championships

I don't think that was proper and I don't believe he was near to being the equal of Wilt

he had much better players on those Celtics teams than Wilt had with the Warriors for all of those years

when Wilt finally got to the 76ers and the Lakers with better players he got a couple of Championships

he should have had more - but I don't believe you can blame him for that

Russell was before my time. He was almost like a 'myth' to me. No 'youtube' highlights back then. Could see from occasional television stuff, and from word of mouth that Russell was real good. A workhorse and a winner.

Was he better than Chamberlain?
No. c'mon.
but he was good enough and had enough character to relatively 'stalemate' a Chamberlain. Wilt is still going to score and be more ball dominant, and Russell is doing this while acting relatively more as a 'cog in a machine'.

Wilt was a playoff choker.

I pick Russell on my team 999 out of 1000 times and that 1 time I don't is because I fell asleep.

Wilt averaged a 20-20 in the play-offs. Lebron James just got his first ever.
Today Wilt still would be Wilt. Bill Russell would be a role player, small forward.

Not all fans would like this comparison, but Dennis Rodman... if you take away the stupid yellow hair and the peircings and the attention-seeking stuff, - they had a few similarities in their games.

I would compare him to Ben Wallace, who I can't believe has been retired over 10 years. Wallace played center and power forward.

.

take away the centers and the greatest player from that era imo was Oscar

he averaged a triple double a couple of years

I was so glad he finally got a Championship when the Bucks got Kareem

in his prime - if you had the misfortune to be matched up against the Big O - you were going to get used up - for sure - no matter who you were

his jumper was so picture perfect - he released it from way up high

I was going to say Jerry West, off the top of my head because I was a Laker fan then. If you look at numbers, Oscar has a slight head to head edge. So for that I would tend agree, with Mr Clutch a close second to the Big O. Hard to believe those guys retired 50 years ago.

I value rings and banners, not individual glory.

You called Wilt a playoff choker, that is BS, true he only had two rings, that was on his teammates not him. I think Wilt drew triple teams more than the rest of the league combined. Wilt would be a dominate player in today's NBA,
Bill Russell would not.

He'd still win more rings.

Greer's FT shooting was critical to the Sixers that year. Unique look too.
