x x 4.6 means that the horse came in 3rd and thus paid nothing on the bet to win, nothing on the bet to place and 4.6 on the bet to show

5.8 3.2 2.4 means that the horse came in 1st and paid 5.8 to win, 3.2 to place, and 2.4 to show. If I list all 3 that means that I bet the horse $X to win, $2X to place, and $4X to show.

Sometimes I don't bet win, place, and show, in those cases I only bet win, place or only bet win. If I only bet win, place or only bet win I will then list only the payoffs for the win, place or the payoff for win.
