Chavez and Maduro have been running Venezuela into the ground for close to 20 years.NOW, Trump cares? How convienent. I'm sure all the issues surrounding Trump the last few weeks had nothing to do with his decisions.

It's only "humanitarian" when a social justice warrior says it is. Libs have a mortal lock on righteousness and justice.

As long as the military is backing Maduro there isn't much for us to do...

Condemn and whatnot and hope our pressure gives them pause or switches their side.

Sadly that type of realpolitik is taboo these days.

While many on here do a dance and chat up yesterday's news, here's the only story that now matters, much to chagrin of the Trump haters and the left wing lunatics, here and throughout the USA.

Quote:
Juan Guaidó, the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, took an oath of office on Wednesday and was sworn in as the legitimate interim president of the country, replacing dictator Nicolás Maduro.

President Donald Trump issued a statement shortly after the public swearing-in ceremony recognizing Guaidó as the legitimate head of state of Venezuela. Countries like Argentina and Brazil, as well as the Organization of American States (OAS), also recognized Guaidó.

Guaidó was elected president of the National Assembly, the only remaining democratically elected institution in the country, in January. He is a member of the Popular Will party led by political prisoner Leopoldo López, a member party of the Socialist International. The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the party of Maduro and predecessor Hugo Chávez, is not a member of the Socialist International and the organization has publicly opposed Maduro’s dictatorship.

...

Guaidó formally took his oath of office before a crowd of thousands in Caracas, who he had convened for a nationwide protest to end the “usurpation” of power by Maduro. After repeating the words in the oath, the crowd surrounding him sang the national anthem and burst into applause.

“We authorized the entry of the humanitarian aid necessary to help our people,” he said, referring to the National Assembly. “By the way, it’s nonsense that there will be an invasion if that is allowed, it’s a tall tale. It will be managed through the Organization of American States … through the constitution.”

Shortly after his speech, President Trump issued a statement recognizing Guaidó as the country’s president.

“In its role as the only legitimate branch of government duly elected by the Venezuelan people, the National Assembly invoked the country’s constitution to declare Nicolas Maduro illegitimate, and the office of the presidency therefore vacant,” Trump said. “The people of Venezuela have courageously spoken out against Maduro and his regime and demanded freedom and the rule of law.”

We encourage other Western Hemisphere governments to recognize National Assembly President Guaidó as the Interim President of Venezuela, and we will work constructively with them in support of his efforts to restore constitutional legitimacy,” Trump vowed.
...

Brazil’s conservative government announced it would recognize Guaidó last week, while the nations of Argentina and Canada followed Trump’s announcement with their own recognition. ...

And US president Donald Trump, the legitimate, true leader of the free world, quickly helped bring legitimacy to Juan Guaido's as the Venezuelan president.

Quote:
US President Donald Trump has said he recognises Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó as interim president.

The announcement came minutes after the 35-year-old declared himself acting leader in Caracas on Wednesday.

A number of South American countries, including Brazil, Colombia and Peru, have also recognized Mr Guaidó as Venezuela's legitimate president.
Quote:
What does the US say?
In a statement, Mr Trump described Mr Maduro's leadership as "illegitimate" and said the country's congress was the only "legitimate branch of government" in the country.

"The people of Venezuela have courageously spoken out against Maduro and his regime and demanded freedom and the rule of law," his statement said.
Since you'll never get this stuff from the Trump bashers and 'truth' seekers, you can read the rest here:

Here is today's news, and the only story that now matters to the people of Venezuela:

Quote:
Venezuela’s military on Thursday threw its support behind embattled President Nicolás Maduro on Thursday, a day after the head of the country’s national assembly declared himself legitimate leader and was recognized by the U.S. and most Latin American nations.

Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, flanked by the heads of the country’s armed forces, said the military would oppose any effort to remove Mr. Maduro, who began a second, six-year term this month after elections last year that were widely regarded as a sham.

We'll see how all this shapes up.

I'd rather go with the people who want freedom, a chance to eat, and those that put their faith and lives against Maduro.

Plus, knowing Trump is vocally supporting Guaido is all what many really need for now. The USA will help them attain their freedom and a chance to eat again.

Too bad the hate Trumpers put their ignorance ahead of decency and democracy.

Only a select few think like you and the others on here. Never forget that. Your side is clueless and have been for 3+ years.

Actually, without getting personal, it is the hate Trump crowd that is yesterday's news.

Every other opposition party leader has been taken into custody and disappeared.

But not this time.
Perhaps Trump's endorsement has him worried......

That last post wasn't about Trump, it was about the fact that the "election" of a new president will not change anything. You can't get rid of dictators or military juntas with elections.

Why do you have to make everything about Trump, and assume that anything other than praise for him can only mean hatred? I don't hate Trump, I just point out when he and his acolytes are wrong. I did the same thing when Obama was in office without hating him.
