Coup is officially underway.
Troops shooting at troops and mass arrests going on from both sides. Guaido currently rallying people in the streets of Caracas but not installed at the moment.
Going to be a interesting day there...

They banned the sale of firearms back in 2012.
Honestly that might have ended up being a good thing though depending on how this plays out. At least in terms of the human cost.
Air base in Caracas at risk of being overrun at the moment. Wonder how the Russians there are feeling...
We also don't appear to be behind this as we are a bit flatfooted. No Amphib groups or Carriers deployed to react.

Longer it goes more likely our involvement becomes.
We just don't have a lot of assets on hand right now. Ike is at sea but due back in Norfolk today.

The coup appears to have failed as several opposition leaders have now sought asylum in foreign embassies and residences.
EDIT:
Guaido is apparently at a local military airbase with loyal officers. Could be at a deadlock with neither side yielding and more fighting tomorrow.

So, you're okay with the people of Venezuela not being able to defend themselves or secure their changes of rising against a tyrannical government? I wonder just how tyrannical their government would have gotten, had the people been armed.
Would you feel the same about someone being able to ban the sale of firearms here, in a similar way?

You're putting words in my mouth.
What I meant was the fact the that everybody doesn't have guns is going to likely lower the human cost of this affair. That's a good thing no matter what way you slice it.
As of now the military is mostly fence-sitting. Some loyalists are supporting Maduro and others are defecting and supporting Guaido.
I'm a pretty staunch Second Amendment guy... it was just an observation of this particular case at this particular time.
