Trump hurt himself severely by his post-election classless narcistic behavior. The election may have been "stolen" from him. We'll never know. So some of his reaction was understandable and so was the hurt he experienced. But over time, he pushed the envelope too far and has lost a lot of people who would have supported him if he showed even an ounce of graciousness in defeat.

maddog,
I am glad you, the author and the other loyal democrats ALL believe this.
But you still better hope they keep the Jan 6 committee going so maybe they can change the constitution so Trump can not run again.

Wait, this thread implies Trump was a rising star?
Where?
Certainly not legacy media, which dominates the landscape.
Now, if you really want to talk about falling stars...there's one Joe "Dementia-Riddled" Biden.
He's below Trump now in approval ratings, right? At the same point in their presidencies?
You really should be posting threads about that...it's way more relevant.
But I know, you want to ignore that stuff...it hurts.
You never in a million years expected Biden's approval ratings would approach Trump's let alone blow past them towards the bottom.

Trump's personality hurt him from the beginning.
Even the Capital R's were deeply split on getting behind him. They mostly wanted Jeb Bush, who phoned it in from the very beginning.
His theme was: "Vote for me because... well, because I'm Jeb Bush."
What Trump accomplished during his time was AMAZING.
Even more so considering that his party was never COMPLETELY onboard.
Dream for a moment, and imagine what he would have done in a 2nd term, when he REALLY got a chance to drain the swamp. Admittedly, he was NOT truly Presidential. Sort of like King Ralph (IMDB), he should have been coached from the very beginning.
In the end, like King Ralph, he would never fit the mold of a true President, but damn - could he get stuff done. Of course, the liberals here will do what the OP has done... just fall back to "our candidate isn't Donald Trump."
No. Your candidate has only destroyed the future of our country and the world.

Was it Trump's personality, or the total ignorance of so many people who are not smart enough to get past it and see what good he was doing?
As Americans, we are a hardy, resilient bunch, most of us, but face it, we are mostly dumber than a box of rocks.

When your TV box keeps telling you your President is an agent of Putin, it kinda puts a damper on things for some people, I guess.
There's a LOT of politically unsophisticated people in this world who still actually listen to the TV box.
Don't you think that was just a BIT of the problem?
They played their fascist hand very well...and now we all suffer.

100%
How long did we have to wait for a guy to come along and speak the truth about the politicians?
I remember him saying something like, "I bought these people." No wonder his own didn't want to support him.

Totally agree. Sufficiently provoked and free of restraints, Americans are THE tuffest, hardest, most strong willed bad-asses on the planet. But our profound stupidity, both individually and as a group, and pertaining to all things great and small, has been this country's true weakness and dirty little secret for quite some time.
I would cite definitive examples, but I'm far too dumb. And I mean that.

I disagree with your statement about Americans being the toughest, hardest and most strong willed bad asses on the planet. That may have been true in the past but you like us Canadians have led comfortable lives for too long we don't know what hardship is. The toughness and hardness is gone from the general population. Everyone is so sensitive to just words, never mind anything else. When you give every kid a trophy even if they finish last doesn't scream toughness or hardness in any way.
