Harness Announcers

Browsing through the thoroughbred side and notice lots of threads on favorite announcers but none on the harness side. By gone era favorite is Jack Lee and Frank Salive. Current announcers are Ken Warkentin and Mike Bozich from Harrahs Philadelphia. Thoughts?

Since I bet harness in Southern California pre OTB days (1979-85) and pretty much never after that the only guy I remember is Joe Also, and he seemed pretty good.

Howard got his start in the Roosevelt Raceway grandstand, entertaining the folks with make believe calls before each race.

I hate to be that guy but IMO nobody today was close to where Sam Mckee was. I have only been following the sport for a few years but he was always my favorite by far.

Nothing personal, but I think Warkentin and Houston are extremely overrated.

Not anymore. Played out for me. Wish he'd retire from Delaware. Sadly that will never happen. Mohawk guy pretty good. No one really stands out. Sam was THE BEST.

Sam Mckee was definitly the best. Bozich has a pretty similar style, and I read McKee was his influence. Warkentin rises up to the big occasions.

I respectfully disagree with "Warkentin rises up to big occasions". His 2016 Hambo call was very poor. Bar Hopping was described as hitting the half "in a rated....". How can a 3yo trotter in a second heat for the day need a 27.2 2nd Q to be "rated". It seems like that is just an automatic saying for him and was used improperly there.

The last 1/8th of a mile speaks for itself. The most important part of the race call in the biggest North American race. He got really choked up with words. "Inside the Royal Harry...". He was 5 lengths back not making a move when we have four horses diving to the wire????

Nothing personal, I just think he is extremely overrated.

Sugar from WF in Canada. The RCR announcer. Bozich from Harrahs. Mohawk guy is good. I enjoy Larry when he calls at Freehold. Warkentin will make multiple mistakes on each card. Agree Huston, warkentin overrated. Really if you arent at a track live. The sound is always turned downed and you cant here it. Unless your betting from your home.

Houston is great -- if you are young and can tolerate the screaming.
