Does NO ONE recall a TWO YEAR pandemic that ravaged business GLOBALLY?

That level of loss of business has major consequnces when starting back up again.

You guys are spot on with our experience here.

InnerDirt, Like BJ said, super market sale meat is just horrible.

My wife loves a good marinated tri-tip. For me, it's mostly rib steaks.
However, the tri-tips are pure crap. Even the $11 @lb Costco ones.

As for fruits & vegetables, yesterday Beth bought a head of cauliflower which was $3.98 for a small one.

Avocados in the grocery store?
$1.98 for small ones.
Buy 5 and 3 are rotten.
Not exaggerating.

Only exception for avocados is Costco. $6-$7 for FIVE BIG ONES. They will always be 100% perfect.

Tip: We put them in the fridge and take out 1 at a time to ripen for a couple of days. We eat 1 per day.


Joe's idea about buying meat at Costco. Yep. But don't buy the cheap ones. If you can't afford the $22+ per pound meat, you better get used to the crap or pass.

December 15th prime rib goes on sale from coast to coast. Except for Costco. LOL
We typically by about 40-50 pounds and cut it into 2 & 3-bone roasts. Last year we paid $7 per pound at Raley's, an upscale market where the normal price would be double that.

This year that same beef (now) is $32 per pound, which makes me thing the price at Christmas will be $15

That is beef for the entire year, except for the occasional Costco filet when we're feeling flush. (At almost $40 per pound we don't often feel THAT flush.)
BTW, out here, Costco has had the 2nd best crab in the country - (King is best, Dungeness is 2nd) - on sale for $6.99 per pound. 2 crabs = $35 (5 pounds).

THAT is a steal.

I really couldn't even venture a guess what the cost of going back to full production would entail as far as it's impact on inflation. Wages are up, training staff takes time and money, and new employees are less productive than experienced ones. As long as your competition is suffering the same ills you can pass the costs on to consumers.


I think a good chunk of inflation is the increased cost of energy. Diesel is still sky high, most everyone is paying more for electricity. Shipping costs have gone insane, as I have said before, I often order various shop supplies in the exact same volumes. I am getting hit with freight charges that are double of what they were 2 years ago. If you think of all the things contributing to inflation I think it will take a recession to stop it. At least all the money for nothing is drying up.

As for Tri Tip that seems to be regional. I used to eat it a lot in California, I haven't seen it anywhere I shop here. I don't go around hunting for it, maybe someone has it.

I'm talking about the cheaper grade meats that they sell every day.

I am also saying that I've not had a piece of meat under $20 a pound that was worth eating this year.

Just paid $4.19 for gas today here in SE Wisconsin. It was "down" to about $3.35 a couple of weeks ago. Going up again.

Iceberg salad mix, used to be $1.69 everywhere forever, now $1.99 but it's now about 1/3 purple cabbage. I do a salad a day, now just going to buy romaine and cut it up.

Those beef sticks at Kwik Trip that I complained about in a similar thread are now up 50 cents from months ago. They are good quality, but not gonna pay it.

Don't get me started on meat...

I haven't had a steak in a while, mostly cuts of pork and chicken. I would compare the common rural grocery chain here, Food Lion to be a notch below a Safeway. I doubt $20 a pound meat exists. I will window shop for steak next time.

Just a hunch, but something tells me that the world economic forum agenda of people eating bugs is coming into play. If their agenda is for people to eat bugs they aren't going to be able to mandate people eat bugs. But if they drive up the cost of food (especially meat) to ridiculous prices, well suddenly some might get to the point where eating bugs is a great alternative. The MSM will then pump the agenda and somewhere down the line we have more and more folks eating bugs. We are living in a script.....and we aren't writing it.

Paid $4.29 for a dozen eggs today that were $1.29 for the same product when DJT was the prez. $22.83 for 2.87 pound chuck roast today. $3.29 for a box of stuffing that was $1.50 during the DJT years.


Gotta love that Inflation Reduction Act. Where would I be without it?

I’m still buying sirloin for 3.79 a lb. For my restaurant.

Chicken leg n thigh .79 a lb

Whole chicken cut. 1.49 lb

Wings 1.63lb

Clod (chuck) 2.79 lb. We have to grind it

Pork butt. 1.29 lb

We don’t even buy shrimp anymore except for promotions 4.00 lb but moves around often.

Thank goodness I can shop for meats out of my restaurant freezer.

i went to Costco sunday.. gas $2.99, rotisserie chicken $5.00, Ferrerer Roche chocolates $10.89 a box up from $8 last year with a 4-box limit..

hot dog and lemonade on the way out still $1.50
