Do you have to declare taxable income when you're part of a syndicate who manages to hit a ticket, or two, that are signers?
Say, you invested $100. Things went well that day, and you get back $500.
In the meantime, you are taxable on your return.
Imagine if you had to sign every time you hit a $10 winner.

The only tangible method of describing your experience in this pool is with ROI.
Anything else (apart from net $ win/loss) is blowing smoke.

Yes I claimed them on my tax return but they were off set by my wifes casino losses. So far I have invested $2200 and got back $3975 for a profit of $1775 which is ok with me.

As i stated the team that picked for the Derby was not the same as the prior pools. After their poor performance at the Derby if don't do better at the Preakness it maybe time to say goodbye.

I know Rich Nielsen of Bloodstock Research was one of the originnal three members of the Players Club handicapping team, but he's moved on, as have the other two.

Does anyone know who are the people currently in charge of making the selections and putting together the ticket strategy for the Twin Spires Players pool?

I played twice last year. 10.00 each time. Got 2 1099's in January. One for 13.00 and one for 95 cents. Since I bet 20.00 to lose 6.05 i guess I don't have to worry about the taxman.

I found the current Players' Pool team members posted on the Twin Spires website under that topic. Ed DeRosa, Jude Feld and Michael Beychok.

The Preakness Players pool is sold out at $50,000. The "promo" on the website states that the Twin Spires Players Pool will be going after "a host of pools" on Preakness 138 Day".

Why not stick with just one....the Pick 6...and get it right this time? On Derby Day they spent over 50K of their 100K bankroll on the Derby Day Pick 6 and missed out on the $675,000+ payoff. Ouch.....

I know that the pick 6 was hit. But I wanted to know if the players pool actually hit the pick 6. Or if the players pool hit any of the bets made for the group.

The group used to be able to hit some good payoff but not anymore.

The Players Pool did not hit the Derby Pick 6 for $675,000+ according to their 21 earlier posted Pick 6 tickets. The closest they came was with their $1,440 ticket #4, which hit the first four legs. Then in leg 5, the turf stake, they used the 2,4,5,9,10,11 on 16 of their 21 tickets, representing $48,732 of their total Pick 6 investment of $54,252. They used the 3,6,7,8 on the other 5 tickets accounting for the remaining $5,520 of the $54,252.

Unfortunately, they did not use the 1, Little Mike ($26.40), on any of their P6 tickets in Leg 5. Even if they had included him on the 5 tickets with the 3,6,7,8...presumably their "B" horses in terms of how they structured their bet, they still would not have hit the Pick 6. They had only 3 (three) of the 21 tickets the Derby winner, I'll Have Another ($32.60) in the final leg. Each of those three tickets consisted of 3,7,8,10,13,14,15,16,18,19....all coupled with 2,4,5,9,10 in Leg 5.

But wait!....there's more.....even if they had used Little Mike on the 16 tickets that used 2,4,5,9,10,11 in Leg 5....they STILL DON'T HIT IT. At that point, they would have been 5 for 5 on tickets 4 ($1,400), 8 ($1,080) and 11 ($3,600). There was just one small problem....on each of these tickets they singled the 4, Union Rags, in Leg 6, The Derby.

It does not appear that they cashed any 5 of 6 conso's either.

They hit nothing. I don't recall the prior team ever having any tickets with singles and if I recall right they stuck mostly to the pick 6.

Kinda late to the topic but thought I would add...

How do you play the super in the Derby and use "all" in multiple legs? Where is the handicapping involved in that? Don't know a single player that used horses like Done Talking or Trinniberg in any spot, much less the 2nd. That's just lazy.

They played the Super High 5 too. Has that bet ever hit on the Derby? Seems like it is always a carryover for Churchill.
