What if there were no ADWs
If ADWs no longer existed (neither books nor pari-mutuel) by what percentage do you think your annual wagering volume would fall?

I live in California. I find the ADW situation confusing. I want to be able to wager on any track but without having to maintain multiple accounts. And even if I did hassle with multiple accounts, there's no assurance that all of the tracks would be offered.

I haven't been to a track in a good 10 years. Even when I was going regularly, I didn't really like the experience of being at the track, kind of boring.

Shit-I punched the wrong item on the poll-I thought the first item "very little of not at all" was how much would you bet. Please change my response to "I'd probably stop wagering"

I wanted to add a new choice:
6) I'd rather eat a bowl full of thumb tacks.

I guess we'll count that as an I'd stop wagering.

I like the social interaction at the track, too. But I just don't bet there. It costs me too much money.

I used to go to Bay Meadows or occasionally San Jose Fair Downs OTW, but no more with my Youbet account. No ADW would mean at least an 80% drop, probably more but I figure I would get the bug and go once in awhile. Tough with the family though. ADW is soooo convenient.

That is exactly my problem. When I go to the track, I take a list of the bets that I would like to bet, and enough money to cover my list. Then I shoot the breeze with my buddys and stick to my list of bets. In fact they make fun of me because I won't make extra bets or even look at their programs.
When I used to bet online or over the phone, every time I had nothing to do I would start looking for races to bet and would eventually lose all of my money, because the ability to make a bet was so easily accessible.

ADW allows the sport to reach out to people who want to enjoy playing the ponies, but simply have many other pulls on their time to spend counyless hours at the track and driving to and from.
Bottom line is racing is virtually a non-entity longer term without ADW. The issues with Tracknet and TVg will get settled soon and racing can eventually move ahead with innovative ideas from the ADW's, tracks, etc.
WE are all kidding ourselves if we think racing survives without ADW longer term. Society's demands on ones time mean ADW will be increasingly important over time.

There will always be the legal online casino known as the stock market, so I'd just stick with that if I couldn't bet horses online...

Google ADW and you get animal diversity web.
The rule with abbreviations is that one uses them subsequently after the meaning of the expression in first explained.

Yes, however, if you add "racing" to the list, you'll get plenty of "hits" for advance deposit wagering on the first page.
A sparcity of data sometimes leads to bad results.
