Hard to believe he would be fully cranked for this race coming off a near four month layoff.

Super Ninety Nine the ex-sprinter turned marathoner may hold on Saturday but will be gasping for air in subsequent starts beyond 1 1/16th.

He's 2 for 2 in route races. If he loses on Saturday, it will be because of the wide post.

Not a horse I plan on using on top, but am starting to become a "fan" of Oxbow.

I had him as the best performance of the Risen Star. He completely emptied the tank in that effort, but held it together fundamentally, and then galloped out very well.

Doesn't miss a beat on the work tab. Seems to be a resilient colt.

Can a small speed horse like that be a factor in the triple crown?

Super Ninety Nine

Bodemeister

He's my top derby horse at this point, but realistically it's too soon make any predictions.

This race will be a test, and has several good contenders lead by Delhomme.

He could lose for any number of reasons there's a ton of variables:

Track condition
Pace
Racing luck
Distance
Etc, etc

That said I think he wins Saturday but is no mortal lock.

How is a lightly raced 3yo an ex-sprinter? Don't almost all horses start in a few sprints?

Almost is right. In this race, Carve is the exception.

Well I appear to be in the minority on Super Ninety Nine, still think he's more suited to shorter races than long although I don't have the empirical evidence to back up my opinions except some aged conformation reports.
