Time to die.

Thanks for posting, just glanced at it. Will read the rest when I have time. One thought is he can do what he wants but keep it to himself- don't make it a public policy prescription for all. The fact that it was published in the Atlantic May be for a reason, not a good one.

What a fool this man is...

A buddhist teacher I once knew would say that we should never talk, unless we could improve on the silence which pervaded before we decided to open our mouths. That was the first thought to come to my mind as I read this article. A perfectly healthy 57-year old, who just climbed mount Kilimanjaro, is making a public announcement that he'd like to die at 75 years of age. And we are supposed to believe him.

If you wanted credibility, doctor...then you should have postponed the writing of this article until the year 2031.

Good luck with that. The author is Zeke Emanuel. His brother, Rahm, is the current mayor of Chicago. Zeke is generally known as Obama's primary adviser on health issues in general and on ObamaCare in particular. From the WSJ:

Quote:
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, health adviser to President Barack Obama, is under scrutiny. As a bioethicist, he has written extensively about who should get medical care, who should decide, and whose life is worth saving. Dr. Emanuel is part of a school of thought that redefines a physician’s duty, insisting that it includes working for the greater good of society instead of focusing only on a patient’s needs. Many physicians find that view dangerous, and most Americans are likely to agree.

In my 90s - shot to death by a jealous husband.

With very few exceptions, people die when God decides they will.

What are the exceptions? Doesn't God decide EVERYTHING?

Genetics determine how long you can live.

Behavior and luck determine how close you get to that potential.

But can behavior and luck allow someone to EXCEED one's genetic potential?

This is not religious thread and I should not have made that post. They can delete it if they want.

For many on both fringes of the political spectrum, public policy is a matter of blind faith.

I have to agree no more tests after 75 except our teeth.....what got to me was (feeble, ineffectual even pathetic) how we are remembered by our family. As Woody said I'm not afraid of dying I just don't want to be there when it happens..........
