Safety at shooting ranges is paramount, the range officer (RO) is also the safety officer. Instructor may be also the RO but often an instructor is under the RO who has complete control who can command all guns down hands off. Why any RO would permit a nine year old to handle a Uzi is beyond me. There should be nothing forward of the firing line but targets.

It is not an accident, it is criminal negligence at every level by pretty much everyone involved. A nine-year old does not have the physical or mental maturity to fire that weapon, or the rational maturity to make the decision and bear the responsibility of her actions.
Her parents, the instructor, and the owners of the range all bear the guilt. And now the instructor is dead and the little girl's life is potentially ruined.

Why does a nine year old need training with an automatic weapon?

Why does anyone outside of the military and police need such training?

Because it is fun?
Why does anyone other than a member of the military need training on sky diving?

Because we need to be able to defend ourselves from those that seek to harm us -- such as those totalitarians running our government.

Up to this point, amazingly, pretty much everyone from all stripes is on board that nine-year-olds of either gender probably shouldn't be encouraged to fire hardcore weaponry. No reason to stray into clicheville now.

didn't you watch any of the footage from Ferguson? unarmed white businesses were ransacked by the mob while the police just stood by. all of that military equipment was not used against the lawbreakers, only to intimidate the public and protesters and even press. when the shit hits the fan rest assured the police are not there to protect you.

Some issues today are too serious to smile about, Mike, and it isn't funny knowing that our very own government think citizens are more a threat than ISIS and numerous other villains around the world.
H4C did post asking why would anyone .... need to learn how to handle a firearm if you aren't in the military or police. There wasn't any reference to 9-year-olds even though this thread was about a 9-year-old.

Too late.
"Why does anybody need...."
This will be the mantra of the main stream media on the news shows tomorrow.

It sounds like this is a day trip from Las Vegas to a shooting range that specializes in lessons on semiautomatics and machine guns.
Girl from NJ won't forget that trip.
OSHA will probably crucify the company for safety violations (in this case probably justified).
