Cantor Gaming To The Rescue in NJ

It looks like Cantor Gaming is ready to put up 100 million dollars to keep the Meadowlands in business.

Excerpt, Full article at:

Gural said that his primary financial partner in his efforts to lease the track will be Cantor Gaming. He said he and Cantor are not interested in a business-as-usual approach but will instead “change this game upside down.” He said he intends to introduce many forms of new wagering and will try to regain the business taken away by rebate shops.

“We’re not going to spend $100 million and just hope by some miracle all of a sudden people get interested in harness racing,” Gural said. “Our plan is to completely change the model.

(Friday, March 25, 2011)
Jeff Gural joined Meadowlands Racetrack's pre-card show on Friday to update fans and horsemen about his progress in negotiating the lease of Meadowlands Racetrack.

now here's a guy that at least has a plan to succeed. from what it sounds like on the surface his plan includes reduction in takeout. i want to warn him that that move is just a start. rules regulations and security are more important than takeout. people will come to a game that they feel is on a level playing field. its exciting to hear that a guy wants to make some progress.

But he has to convince the anti-horse racing governor that someone who has the experience can indeed make the product a lot better than the NJSEA has done.

I heard that he has already convinced the Governor with a look to the future which will include sports betting and rebates that are in line with the big rebate shops in The Dakota's.

Cantor Gaming is very big with sports wagering in Nevada with their in game betting and very high limits. This very deep pockets group is not afraid to take a bet or speculate on the future.

Hopefully things are getting brighter for New Jersey Racing.

Also, the unions must realize this may be their one and only shot to keep their people working.

I wish him well as long as tax money is not involved. I do think if he thinks sports betting is going to bail him out, he is going to disappointed. Federal laws will need to changed. That will not be easily done with all of the sports leagues vehemently against it.

NJ can't enact sports gambling see what happened in Delaware

http://www.reuters.com/article/2010/...64233A20100503

Sports betting won't help too much if you have to go to the track to wager. People will still use the phone and the connection they have now.

1. Depending on the day you bet there can be a one week grace period doing it illegally.

2. People won't want to walk out of the track with a large sum of cash.

3. I was at Meadowlands once and wagering was not available due to the servers being down. Well there were still around 1000 people screaming and yelling during the races don't think they were doing that for fun.

4. I loved Gural's interview the guy is smart.

5. I find it more than a coincidence that Gural is scheduled to speak at a gambling conference in late March and now has a a partnership with Cantor Gaming. There is more than meets the eye here is the Governor softening? Could Cantor have offered to buy some properties in Atlantic City?
