Wow, I haven't checked and I just found this post. Santa Anita was always one of the best because it was such a big place and parking was $10. I've been to Del Mar the last two BCs and the parking was actually worth it. The funniest part is that getting out on one of those days (Saturday?) a couple years ago there was a concrete road block that had a gap with another just big enough for our compact car, so my friends and I got out with the "owners" lol - took like 5 min.

When I was in college I used to own a Geo Metro. Tiny little thing. The Rose Bowl is actually the toughest parking situation in Los Angeles- when it is sold out, such as it is every January 1, you are parked on a golf course with 3 two lane access roads out of the canyon. It takes forever to exit. Unless...

Well, my little Geo was light enough and narrow enough that you could actually drive it over the little bridges used by the golf carts on the golf course, which allowed me to get over to the exit that the VIP lot used. I got out of the Rose Bowl quickly a few times that way.

I must have parked in the mall lot 100's of times back in the day and never got towed. I did park where shoppers parked to blend in. I did not park close to the SA access road. I think if you did that how are they going to catch you? You could go in the mall and out to be safe. I doubt they would chalk all the tires in the parking lot.

Are the ticket (face) prices down this year? It looked like grandstand reserved was more cost effective, they just bumped the parking part tremendously. I haven't checked out yet though.

I was remiss a couple years ago in not meeting up, maybe it was Andy, but I'll be down on the main concourse and we'll drink an overpriced bloody mary or something and shoot the stuff, both Friday and Saturday. Just let me know.

The Derby is over so now the sport can go back to being insignificant. After all, papers no longer cover the sport and it will continue on with its' slow death. Keep raising the costs to attend horse racing because everybody knows, raising prices is the best way to attract new fans to a sport!


Lastly, HORSE RACING NEEDS THE MONEY"?? I guess the high takeout on wagering isn't enough for horse racing that "needs the money"? RAISING ENTRANCE AND PARKING FEES IS THE ANSWER? SERIOUSLY??

I'm guessing they don't want the unwashed masses congregating with the celebs they are trying to attract for something like the Breeders Cup. Those unwashed masses however are the ones that are putting money into the sport the rest of the year when there isn't a big racing weekend.

your comparison is apples to oranges. a trip to a casino does not equal the breeders cup. is the parking charge ridiculous, yes. there is tons on parking at Santa Anita. but lets not compare it to a trip to a casino. hell you can play a casino on line as well as the horses. no fuss no muss, if gambling is the only thing you care about.

Maybe I'm naive, but I never worry about things like that. I grew up in a pretty rough section of Baltimore so I guess it doesn't phase me. I was robbed at gunpoint when I was 17, though robbed is probably not the right word since I had nothing to actually take!

I have only been to Baltimore a couple times to buy metal. What I remember
most is how bad the roads are. I bet tire shops that do front end alignments do a hell of a business there.
