in 2020 there might be better opportunities forgetting about the presidential race and just betting on the various senatorial races either way. it looks like Alabama will definitely tip back to the Republican candidate, but there are lots of other states where the Democrat has a great chance to win as the underdog. there are races where the incumbent Republican senator's price has come to far down and they might be worth bets.

stay tuned, great election action coming up

Virginia is for bigots.

Virginia and their blackface wearing officials was not in play for the Republicans.

I think everyone needs to just cool off.
(1) the observations that Trump is weak among the suburbs... there's something to it apparently in Kentucky...

...Kentucky!

Their Gov is likely to be a Dem. Only 5k total difference, but still. To an out of stater I'm surprised an R isn't the winner

(2) We have a long long way to go. Trump can regroup but tonight does shine a light on his weakness. It had better get fixed. Don't underestimate him, but he's no shoe in
All good points, imo, but Gov Matt Bevin is the Ted Cruz of KY (almost everyone finds him contemptible).

That speaks volumes about Texas.

Not true (re: Cruz), but I suppose we're all entitled to an opinion

He was joking about killing him, of course.

What are the odds of Trump being impeached and then going on to winning the 2020 election?

You mean actually removed from office and then be re-elected?

The senate could, and probably would, vote to disqualify him.

That would be a hoot. Love to see it.

YOU think about it.
They were voting for a governor for their state.
Nothing more.
All about it being a vote for or against Trump is nonsense.
And I say that after the GOP won 5 of the 6 governor races.

Oh no, not removed from office just impeached by the House and found not guilty by the Senate and then 4 more years.

I predict this is what will happen.

As a life-long Kentuckian, here's a history lesson for those gleeful that Bevin lost. He was the first Republican governor elected here in about 40 years, so for anybody who thinks this is a Republican state on the LOCAL level, they are sadly mistaken. Likewise, our state legislature was majority Democrat for nearly as long until the previous election.

Bevin is not a likeable guy, however, he carried 97 of the 120 counties, with Beshear winning the five most populous. Thus, Beshear is going to have to figure how to win over large swaths of the state that don't support him.

Bevin's loss comes down to not his appeal, but to one issue that has been dominating the media across the state for two years: the teachers' pension fund. About 30 years ago, the Democrat-controlled government thought it was a good idea to start under-funding, then raiding the fund whenever there were shortfalls. Every once in a while, a few legislators would gripe about it, but nothing would get done. After decades, it became the worst-managed pension in the country, which is saying something. It wasn't until Bevin brought the issue to the forefront, with some ideas that were radical and thus completely dismissed by the teacher's union. Ultimately, they won over popular opinion because of Bevin's hard-line stance. This is despite the fact that the funding has increased over the past two years for the first time in decades. I'm not connected in any way to this via my career, so it really doesn't affect me, just giving a little background.

Side note on minor issue: Bevin was strongly against casinos and sports gaming, as well as any type of marijuana legalization, which didn't help either. Beshear is pro-both, but will have a tough time passing either in a Republican-held legislature.

It doesn't matter who is governor here, Trump will win this state easily.
