Four "Super Dual Qualifiers" Among Derby Contenders

By "Super Dual Qualifier" is meant a horse which was rated within 10 pounds of the highweight on the 2017 EFH for 2-year-olds and a Dosage Index not above 4.00 and at least some either Solid or Professional chef-de-race representation.

There are four Super Dual Qualifiers among this year's realistic Derby contenders. They are Bolt d'Oro, Catholic Boy, Free Drop Billy, and Instilled Regard.

Thanks for the info. When Ferdinand won the derby we boxed all the dual qualifiers and bet them to win. Hit the win, exacta and the triple. One my best wins ever.

Anyone can correct me if I am wrong but since 1998 only Street Sense and Super Saver have been dual qualifiers. That is only 2 in almost 20 years.

But what I'd be interested in knowing is whether anyone has taken over the maintenance of the Dosage system; e.g., naming new chefs-de-race, since Dr. Roman retired.

Forgot about Mendelssohn - he's a Super Dual qualifier too, as is Combatant if he gets in.

Yes, Mendy qualifies, but Combatant is way down the list (70th), rated at 106 lbs. Maybe you were thinking of Enticed, who is rated at 118 lbs.

I believe that Nyquist and American Pharoah were also DQs.

Combatant is not one.

American Pharoah didn't even have the Dosage Index (4.33).

Yep. Checked my notes and I have a big red circle around his dosage number, which is probably why I ignored him and boxed Dortmund/Carpe Diem.
