Bolton's views are diametrically opposed to what Trump said on the campaign trail. Recall, Trump was highly critical of the neocon, war-mongering wing of the GOP when campaigning. As you know, I was strongly opposed to Trump's nomination, but I found his anti-neocon rhetoric refreshing. Now he's embracing one of the intellectual leaders of the neocon movement? It makes no sense. We'll now have a Secretary of State and National Security Advisor both beating the drums of war, especially on the Iran front. In my mind, Jim Mattis will play a key role in preventing such a disastrous move. I hope he stays on.
You may say Trump, like Lincoln, has created a "cabinet of rivals" (in this case Bolton/Pomp v Mattis). From most historical accounts, Lincoln was well informed and processed information well. Donald J. Trump is no Abraham Lincoln, a far cry from him.

Now that the usual suspects have weighed in, I am confident that this was a good appointment!

Which will be just about the time that all the tell-all books written by top people who quit or were fired by Trump will be coming out.

He's 100% the opposite of what Trump campaigned for as far as foreign policy goes. That's why it's starting to feel like he's selling his soul to the Satan and the deep state (the neocons) for political purposes.

Don't bust his balloon. Lefties think that is an "O" for Obama, and wear it as a badge of honor.

Most of the lefties here have that red zero, all courtesy of a single person, which you well know. And it definitely is a badge of honor

It's not the same person who keeps giving me negative rep, is it?

I've never thought of the "deep state" and neocons being the same; if anything, I would think they are mutually exclusive. Have I been missing something fairly obvious?

You've articulated your foreign policy beliefs in the past. Granted, you've vacillated somewhat, but that was mostly situational outrage (i.e., Tom must disagree with Obama). Washington said we should avoid all unnecessary foreign entanglements. Doesn't that capture your worldview? If so, why not condemn the Bolton appointment? Believe it or not, at times Trump's detractors are correct in their assessments of his appointments. Given I've criticized Bolton (I did under GWB too), let me praise Sec of Defense Mattis - he was an outstanding appointment.
