McKinzie being out really threw a wrench into the Derby picture imo. Had he not been injured we likely would have seen another match race in the SA Derby against Bolt which would have given us a better opinion of the better of those two. Justify likely would have headed to the Ark to face some real competition, and we could have seen how he fared running against the likes of Magnum, Solo, Combatant and others. Oh what could have been.

To answer your original question, he would have been at the top of my list. I boxed several exacta with him in the futures pool before his race against Bolt...

Bolt was better competition than anything that raced in Arkansas this year, and it isn't particularly close either.

Really don't want to start an argument, but Solomini beat Bolt in the BCJ... and neither have won a race since. I should have said that Justify would have had to have faced a fuller field and possibly had pace pressure, also would have shipped so we could see how he runs at a track other than Santa Anita. It would have given me a much better picture of what Justify is.

That's not really fair.

Bolt D'Oro won the San Felipe via DQ and Solomini finished first in the Los Alamitos Futurity but was DQ'd.

At least one of those (if not both) should count as a win.

Other than the winner, I dont think much of the Arkansas Derby, that race feels like it was a bit on the weak side this year. The fact the time and pace were on the slowish side only further that thinking.

I think Bolt or Justify would have been very tough in that spot had they shipped.
