Gone are the days when Leo O'Brien could run Fourstars Allstars in the Laurel Dash & come back the following week to run in the Budweiser International.
Gone are the days when D Wayne Lukas could run Althea in the Del Mar Debutante or Hollywood Starlet & come back a week later to run against males in the Del Mar Futurity or Hollywood Futurity.
Because those races are now all run on the same day or weekend.
Plus there's no more Hollywood Park & Budweiser doesn't sponsor any races anymore.
Those days are gone anyway . Doesn’t matter . No one comes back a week later with the same horse . I wouldn’t be surprised if they want some races moved back. Because the turn around for the BC is too fast . Lol
The weather this year in NY has been ridiculous. Nothing you can do about that but it pretty much wiped out both Saturday cards .
This also brings up something that I think makes the BC a wrong idea . People hate to hear it but it’s been mentioned already in this thread . These races used to be “Championship Determines “ not preps ! The run from September to October made the deal for the year . These races don’t even hold as much juice as they used to . There is way less debate and contention . The horses at their “home course “ have clearly had an advantage many years at the BC . It’s basically a whole different game now to end the season . Belmont used to be called the Championship meet . Yeah, I’m getting old .
