Move the Breeders Cup from SA?

I would like to know what the BC officials think about the new changes implemented at Santa Anita. This will affect field size and participation. Reduced fields will kill handle on racings second biggest day. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Breeders Cup move to another venue

According to a Thoroughbred Daily News article, Breeders Cup announced they support the changes.

Amid Breakdown Epidemic, Santa Anita to Ban Race-Day Medication

The issues at Santa Anita had the potential to complicate this year’s Breeders’ Cup, set to be run at “The Great Race Place” for a record 11th time, but in a statement, Breeders’ Cup stood behind The Stronach Group and the track.

“Like all of racing, we are profoundly saddened by the loss of a life at any racetrack and we are heartbroken for those whose livelihoods are dedicated to the care of our horses,” the statement read. “As an organization, the Breeders’ Cup stands for the highest levels of safety and integrity. We support the effort by The Stronach Group to propose important changes and we commit to working with the racing industry in California and elsewhere to achieve meaningful reform on a national basis. We recognize that for real change to result from this difficult situation we must engage those stakeholders quickly and dedicate time and other resources. We must, as an industry, press forward on implementing existing best practices and rapidly proceed with the consideration of further reforms such as those proposed by The Stronach Group in California. It is vital that we all do so.”

Question - will the no meds and no whipping rules apply during the BC or do they call the shots themselves?

I'm sure Stronach touched base with Breeders Cup Ltd before issuing her edict.
Besides, the BC has a history of trying to get rid of Lasix in their races. A few years ago they issued a statement where they intended to phase out the drug over time. I believe they tried it one year with their two year old races, but got so much backlash they dropped the idea. All of their 2018 2YrOld races allowed Lasix.

NOW, if she tried to talk them into synthetic, the BC response would be interesting .

It is my understanding Breeders Cup Ltd essentially takes control of the host facility.

Yes, but they follow house rules.

A buddy of mine said they should move the breeders cup to Churchill. I told him a horse died there on Sept. 20th,21st,22nd and 23rd. Also an exercise rider died there in nov.when a horse broke down. This is an epidemic at most tracks.

if field size is down, handle will go down; then I bet the BC will be less supportive

As long as the BC people get to have reach arounds with Celebuturds, they honestly could care less.

I'd say that Churchill is the distant second favorite right now.

Santa Anita: 85 percent chance of hosting the BC
Churchill: 11 percent chance
Del Mar: 4 percent chance

Good thing is they'll get 4 to 5 months of racing to figure it out unlike Finger Lakes, Belmont, or the other shitholes in New York.
