Law Enforcement Seizes 18 Horses From Louisiana Feed Lot, Investigation Ongoing:

Quote:
Authorities with the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office and Louisiana Department of Agriculture have seized 18 horses after executing a search warrant at an address in Pitkin, La. A statement from the sheriff's office on Facebook explained the offices had received “numerous” complaints of animal neglect against the Thompson Horse Lot, long known for its Facebook-based operation offering followers an opportunity to purchase horses or “bail” animals the lot claimed were at risk for being sent to slaughter.

Here we go again. (Guess what meet in Louisiana just ended.)

If there's a silver lining in this mess, the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office says, "The investigation into this matter is ongoing and criminal charges are expected."

That's not good news for Jacob Thompson, who's already a convicted felon. And Hal Parker remains in the Union Parish jail under $175,000 bond with a stipulation to stay away from animals if he manages to bail out.

But of course Thompson and Parker are just the symptoms of the disease. The real miscreants are the connections who dump these horses in the first place.

I give Louisiana law enforcement (including the state Ag dept.) credit for at least trying. Now if only the Louisiana Racing Commission and the tracks would enforce their own policies, real progress might be made.
