Don't see this often

Opener at Thistledown doday (8 29 22) winner Tantrum paid $2.60 to win yet the super was $3033.30 for a dollar

How does that compute?

Small pool and all bombs underneath looks to be the cause, but yeah usually when a ultra-low odds fave wins all exotics are sort of depressed.

I see too that the only other horses with single-digit odds finished well off the board. I'm sure that helped.

There is one winner and 4 horses make up a superfecta.

I doubt a single person had it for a dollar, just a bunch of dimes for 303.33, but that is how we display them.

It is pretty simple really. First, it was a nine horse field. The number of combos available in a 9 horse field super with the favorite keyed on top is 336. Second, the biggest longshot ran second. And third, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices were all out of the superfecta.

People try to handicap the underneath positions the same as the win position. The low odds horses are often running to beat the favorite and fail, setting up good placings for the longshots.

The 3 was obvious. I was not at all surprised by the 6 and 5. The 1 looks horrible except that he had two 6f works since the last start. But with zero QSP, it was a surprise that he ran forwardly throughout.

This exactly. Often exotic prices are not displayed in relation to the minimum bet. Why? Same reason as everything else in racing:

"That's how we've always done it..."

Accountants call it the SALY method, Same As Last Year. Nobody ever knows why... it just is.
