He said "conservatives".
There are 51 "Republican" Senators. I'd be hard pressed to name 10 of them as conservative.
There is a political theory that as one side moves further out on the political spectrum, the other side moves in the same direction to fill the void that is left in the center.
The Dems have been moving more and more left, with crackpots like Bernie Sanders becoming mainstream and radicals like Keith Ellison becoming DNC party officials. That makes true conservative principles less important for candidates on the right (many of whom are really now in the center, like Trump). The right wing of politics today is moving toward what was the middle in the past.
