My favorite part is this quote: "The horse is happy here. He likes the track.” That's nice. Is he going to run the Derby via teleconference from Palm Meadows?

I don't like seeing 4f works for horses only going 6f let alone 10f. 10K claimers have nice 4f works.

Why is it that trainers (exclude M. Dickenson) never seem to be interested in building stamina ??
Even a 6 f work woild leave me puzzled.

I don't think a longer work would make sense considering they are shipping him sometime within the next 36 hours.

You can add Larry Jones to that with Afleet Alex as well. All the other trainers knew they were beat when he had the horse gallop a second lap around Belmont as part of regular training. 6/5 (I think that's right) was a steal for his Belmont. Should have won all three. Train an athlete to run at distance and he'll get better at it. Treat him like veal and that's what he'll be

El oh el, thats funny. And wise at the same time!
I too took note of the "he likes this track" quote. Hard to divine what it means though because who knows if that's an accurate depiction of the entire conversation, it's hard to trust reporters these days. I think it's an interesting little nugget though.

Dialed In worked out once at CD: 03Nov'10 CD 4f ft :47ª B 2/32
Is that what Zito meant by, "he likes the track"? Very good work, it preceded his first start at KEE

Sorry, I don't see any logic in that statement. When is Zito going to start building stamina, next week.
Besides if he had galloped a mile or so, he might sleep better on the plane ride.

How does 5 furlong work prepare one to get 1 1/4 miles. I can see a 5f blowout one or two days before the race, but beyond that see little value.

You can disagee with it if you want but the logic makes sense... Ask yourself if you are tired after traveling through airports for a day... Then ask yourself the same question again except this time you are a horse...

Dialed In has never worked more than 5f, yet has accomplished 1 1/18 as well or better than any 3-yr old. In the article, Zito stated, "he won't be short". Hall of Fame trainer has won KD twice.
The 5f work is better than having just a 4f work going into the race. I am concerned about stamina issue. Long gallops will be ok, but 5f work with a sub :12 last 1/8th or a near :23 last quarter gets my attention.

Nothing negative about the work, I doubt Dialed In's owner is complaining about the workout either.
