Triple Crown Winner, Jean Cruguet To Ride
He's 72, and to honor his late wife he's going to ride Ratoath Special at Keeneland on April 27th.

he was getting on this horse in the morning for us in ocala, he liked her so much he bought her and another 2 yo that is good too, gimme a wish probably going to be in next week at keeneland. with ratoath special he is lucky that i had her in a maiden $40k claimer in monmouth last summer to have her eligible for this race. the way she has trained as a 3 year old she should be real tough at keeneland. the only negetive is the synthetic, i never shine over that surface.

Come on, a 72 year old jockey that hasn't ridden in forever is certainly another negative.

Yes, waiting for Sandy Koufax to make his MLB comeback...I'm sure he hasn't forgotten how to pitch either.
I know, I know, it's for a good cause. Just don't fall off brother.

Never liked him.....
Remember him riding in Europe some - mostly in 1972.
Of course, his big success was over here, and he did have quite a career.
I was in the US in the summer of '78, and remember him winning on Macdiarmada.
I recall, also, a dreadful race he rode that summer at Belmont where he was riding a stakes filly (can't remember her name), where he tried to push her through a non-existent gap, and caused fatal injury to the horse.
He may well have injured himself that day, too, but I felt for the filly who had a ton of run, only to perish due to his being over-aggressive.
I've been a critic of Mr. Cruguet ever since.....

Angel Penna's Flying Water.
She was a superior horse. Needless to say, he never rode for Penna again.
He was not my favorite rider. He went 0 for 91 at the 1994 Gulfstream meet. Look it up.
