Braulio Baeza back on track..
Braulio Baeza is back working as the clerk of scales and supervising the jockeys room at hialeah. He was away from the game a decade after being accused of allowing several jockeys to ride overweight, also charged for 291 counts of race fixing. The case went to trial in 2007 and the judge threw out all the charges before it went to the jury.
He has a lawsuit against Spitzer (100 million),nyra.

If it's true he's back at Hialeah, he's only been away from the game since September 2005, when NYRA fired both Baeza and Mario Sclafani, who also had all charges against him dismissed in 2007.
Why did you think he was away from the game for 10 years? He was working at NYRA for 10+ years in the position he was unjustly terminated from...maybe that's what you meant...

I think it's because the NY Post said Baeza was "in limbo for a decade" and "blacklisted for a decade." Geez,100 million lawsuit against Spitzer and NYRA. Nyra does not need that!

No they didn't...they said HIALEAH has been in limbo for a decade. And there is nothing about blacklisting in the NY Post article...
I suggest people just post links to these types of articles from now on, instead of peppering the board with misinformation...

Ok,not really that big of a deal. I thought because it said in limbo. Sorry, Hialeah was in limbo. My mistake with the quick read.
It said he was an "outcast". I used the word blacklisted. An outcast is someone who is isolated or rejected by society. Not far off from blacklisting someone. I know Baeza for a fact has not been taken in by racing society for many years. So I said blacklisted instead. My mistake for the quotes around blacklisted. Anyway,I apologize if it caused problems.

But I agree,5 years in not a decade. Just feels like that way since everything went down with all that. No more rush paper scans before heading out in the morning.

GO BB! I'll be throwing a party at my house if he gets 100m in the settlement.

I'm rooting for Baeza, but boy that would hurt NYRA bad, especially now. It's not going to be chump change if they win, even though it'll be lower than 100 million.

He filed suit in 2007. What was the outcome? Did they settle out of court already?
It shouldn't take this long to get to a judge/jury.
I'm too lazy to do anymore Googling this morning...

His suit is not against NYRA, only certain NYRA employees who presumably did not protect him as they should have. Further, his son serves as a steward there, so I really doubt he would want to wreck it.

One of the best tactical rides of all time......
Putting the NYRA case aside, here is what I know of the man:
Braulio Baeza rode one of the greatest races I have ever seen, and it was not in the U.S. - it was in August 1972 at York, in England.
He rode Roberto, that day, for Daniel Galbreath, owner of Darby Dan Farms and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Lester Piggott, English riding great, had taken off Roberto to ride Rheingold. Both of those horses had won the Epsom Derby as 3 year olds, Rheingold being the older horse.
The race, then known as the Benson and Hedges Gold Cup, was run over 10 furlongs on a pretty firm turf course.
The overwhelming favorite (1-3 odds) was the undefeated Brigadier Gerard.
This horse was deemed unbeatable, a truly brilliant racehorse, eventually winning 17 out of 18 races.
His dominance, however, was in races at a mile. Beyond that, his stamina was
questionable.
Baeza went to the front on Roberto right away. The horse had never been ridden this aggressively from the early stages of a race, and he responded willingly. So well, in fact, that he shattered the course record there that day, and easily defeated Brigadier Gerard.
The tactics employed by Baeza turned out to be a touch of genius.
Few people thought Roberto capable of such a performance, and I believe the horses trainer, the great Vincent O'Brien, was equally surprised.
I will never forget that ride. A great example of dictating pace, and not looking back. Here is the last quarter mile, or so, on video:
