Laminitis

Won "Barbaro's Preakness" in 2006.

What a difference a year makes:
2005 was the loudest crowd i've ever heard in my life when Afleet Alex rallied after the stumble to blow the field away. The house gasped, and then ROARED.
2006 was the quietest crowd ever when Barbaro injured himself. Again the house gasped, but this time fell silent.

He had a really nice 3 year old season. He didn't get to cap it off because he ran into an absolute monster in Invasor.

RIP.

I cashed a significant ticket on Bayakoa in the 1990 BC Distaff, after Go For Wand broke down directly in front of me at Belmont. So I know how you feel.

Situations like that remind me of Hyman Roth in "The Godfather Part II"- "this is the business we have chosen".

He was terrific. He was one of those horses that was still getting better when he retired. There’s no telling how good he would have gotten if he kept racing.

Has there been any progress treating laminitis? I seems to be a very common cause of death for retired race horses.

It is weird that all three of the horses that won a Triple Crown race in 2006 died young.
